  1. “Welcome to the law firm of Bonilla, Scherzer and Crush, where deferred payments for representation are no problem.”
  2. I think once he proves he can keep up this effectiveness for a full season, you mull over your options. Part of me is still waiting for the other shoe to drop and hitters to catch up to him. So if that happens and he struggles, at least it’s a lot easier replacing him in his second or third inning of relief than his second or third inning as a starter.
  3. The risk is that he doesn't perform well as a starter and loses confidence in his stuff. Akin has always performed better the first time through a line-up than the second (as a starter .858 OPS 1st time; .927 OPS 2nd time / as a reliever .561 1st time; .692 2nd time), so maybe he's just right in the two- to three-inning role. It's such a dramatic turnaround this year that I wouldn't dare tinker with it.
  4. Keegan Akin hurt… the feelings of 21,000+ Mariners fans hoping they could climb back into yesterday’s game by throwing three-plus scoreless innings. Nice job to lock down a convincing win.
  5. Some bullpen numbers, last year vs this year: 2021: 27.2 PA/HR; 10.0 PA/BB; .786 OPS; 5.71 ERA 2022: 53.2 PA/HR; 12.0 PA/BB; .655 OPS; 3.07 ERA. Very, very impressive thus far.
  6. I would agree. This was served Flaming Hot Cheetos level, which wasn’t smart. Thankfully it didn’t cost them.
  7. I truly felt that Martin only stole those bases out of solidarity for Mateo. That was really how it seemed to me. It didn’t make sense, but since it (barely) worked you have to think his teammates appreciated it. But if he had been thrown out, it would have been really dumb.
  8. Kremer hit Josh Harrison with a pitch the day before, and Harrison had to leave the game. It might have been in response to that, even though Kremer’s pitch didn’t seem intentional. Either way, it cost the White Sox a run yesterday so it backfired on them
  9. The throw was great, the catch was incredible. Although I held my breath for a moment when he got up from the dirt and inspected his hand. He’s really putting in overtime on his ASG campaign reel.
  10. I love that the whole top of the order has cranked things up this month. Mateo, on the other hand, is 6 for his last 48 ABs, 1 XBH, 3 BB, 24 Ks. He really needs to cut down that swing and just put bat to ball any way possible. He’s a lot of fun to watch but I feel like he’s about three more bad weeks away from playing himself off this team.
  11. I know there’s the unwritten rule about not running up the score unnecessarily with a huge lead, but I would have to think there’s another unwritten rule trumping that which says if you get the chance to hit for the cycle, you take it. I wouldn’t hold it against anybody if they did it to us, even if we had a position player on the mound.
  12. This has to be one of the few times that someone completed the cycle in a 6-inning game, right?
  13. Matt Harvey should be available again as of July, shouldn’t he? We need to sign an ambidextrous pitcher. Then they can pitch twice every five games.
  14. Baker has a weird setup where it looks like he’s rushing his delivery most of the time. Then when half the pitches sail high and away, that’s even more how it looks, like he’s just too amped up. It felt really lucky when he struck out Arozarena after walking the bases full.
  15. Urgh, I was just looking back on that 2018 season, even though my browser warned me, "The following page may trigger PTSD. Are you sure you wish to continue?" What a train wreck. The season when fourth OF Craig Gentry put up a higher WAR than AJ and Trumbo combined, and Chris Davis with 529 PAs and a .539 OPS / 48 OPS+. I need to wash my eyes out with bleach.
  16. Notice that he gave himself an escape hatch in the opening sentence. Maybe he got inside word that Fort McHenry is being razed at the end of the year to make way for an IKEA distribution hub.
  17. They have, so learning of the familial infighting was particularly dispiriting. As long as that is unresolved (not to mention MASN) it’s hard to imagine them making any significant offseason expenditures.
  18. He’s not just coming back down to earth, though, he’s getting destroyed out there. First seven starts: 36.1 IP, 11 ER Last 5 starts: 25.2 IP, 27 ER His BB/K rates are still good, he’s just leaving a lot of fat pitches out over the plate.
  19. When the Colts got spirited away in the dead of night in those Mayflower trucks, it ended my interest in football. I tried watching the Indianapolis Colts the next year but it just felt weird, and when the Ravens came to town, I didn’t care, since they were just the Browns in a different wrapper.
  20. Ho boy. Really the last thing you want to read when you feel they finally might be turning a corner.
  21. It's been case-by-case. Boston had two pitchers put on the restricted list, Minnesota had to replace four players (including Max Kepler), while the Yankees took a more practical solution and had their couple holdouts get vaccinated shortly before the trip, so they played with their roster intact.
  22. His walk rate and OBP are up this year, but only because of April. Since May 1st his OBP is below his career average, and I don’t see a much different hitter lately than who he was before. I like Santander, but I have say he underwhelms me more often that not for a guy hitting in the heart of the order.
  23. i don't know, with the big brick walls there the view isn't all that great.
  24. When Hays went flying into home trying to beat the tag around the tag by Contreras I sort of clenched for a moment hoping he wouldn't get hurt. But he's a lot of fun to watch, and one of the most positive dugout presences judging by what we can see (the other, I dare say it, might be Odor). I don't know that his arm is quite an 80, but what I think might put him towards the top of the list is that his throws are often extremely accurate.
