  1. Have only just visited fangraphs for the first time this week. Don't know other rookies having great seasons on other clubs (or care to?). Am persuaded back and forth, so easily, on Frazier and Mateo. Think the Jays manager's head blends in too well with the red alternate jerseys.
  2. That's how it read to me too. Like: "It's my responsibility to not blame anyone, because that would suck for them, so I won't do that (to them). You're welcome (you out there, I'm not blaming publicly even though I have the opportunity to). (Wink)." Still really enjoyed Buck.
  3. He was cruising for sure. Looking into his innings splits shows he's made it to the 7th 5 times this season. He'll fit right in here.
  4. Obtained minutes before the trade deadline Tuesday, right-hander Jack Flaherty is making his first Baltimore start Thursday afternoon (right now) as his new team tries to clinch the four-game series. He throws a four seam fastball, sinker, curveball, slider, and changeup. Through the first 5 innings he allowed 1 hit (his first batter faced), 1 BB (his second batter...*gulp*) and struck out 7 on just 58 pitches while retired 15 straight. Seemed he was in such a groove the Jays dropped a bunt down the first base line to shake him up a little. In the 6th, however, he gave up two consecutive singles, a line out, then another single (scoring one) followed by a walk to load the bases with one down. Needing outs, he struck out Chapman (swinging) on 5 pitches (all pretty well located down and away) and got Kirk to fly out. His final line would be 6.0 IP 4 H 1 R 1 ER 2 BB 8 Ks 1.52 WHIP 92 pitches, 61 strikes with 5 hard hit balls.
  5. I like the idea of this thread. Not from a "those grapes were probably sour anyway" standpoint. Moreso keeping track of opportunity costs.
  6. Some heroics from that May series from O'Hearn. We were so young then!
  7. If Cowser breaks out and then gets hit with a beer can is that considered a split? Guess it depends on which section it was thrown from. Dirtbags. There was a fun OH thread from May ("This team is good") when we swept them that has a post from @interloper that I STILL get a chuckle out of from time to time. He said:
  8. In both previous series, facing the Os seemed to coincide with relative cold streaks from the Jays. Looking at their season so far they are streaky with both their wins and their losses. Only 5 times in the first half did Toronto not follow up a Win or a Loss with a streak of 2 or more Ws or Ls. We'll see if that trend continues having just lost to the Angels... Will they rattle off 3 wins or 2 more losses over the next few games with us? And FWIW, since the All-Star break, Jays are playing .600 baseball (9-6) compared to .549 before that, with 3 of the 6 losses coming against AL teams. AVG is .31 points higher (.280) than before All-Star... OBP .35 points higher (.361) SLG is .35 points higher (.450) OPS is .70 points higher (.811) In the same span, the Os are playing .625 (10-6) with only 2 of the 6 losses coming against AL teams: AVG .28 points lower (.225) OBP .43 points lower (.281) SLG .29 points lower (.394) OPS .70 points lower (.676)
  9. After this 4 game series, we'll face them for a 3-game set in Baltimore August 22nd-24th. Thanks in large part to a May series sweep in their own home and taking 2 of 3 in Baltimore in June, if the O's split this 4 game series in Toronto they can win the season series. Hoping a quiet Trade Deadline doesn't distract the team or suck any fun out of the clubhouse.
  10. MLB.TV has tonight's (Monday, 7/31) game as the free game of the week: https://www.mlb.com/news/watch-orioles-vs-blue-jays-on-mlb-tv-free-game Game 3 will be streamed on ESPN+, whatever that is.
  11. Broadcast could've been much worse. It certainly wasn't as bad as the strike zone. I thought the wall commentary including economic realities -- how small market teams need to change their field of play to compete with bigger budget rosters -- was noteworthy.
  12. I don't know who those guys are, but I do know I like Gunnar.
  13. I was in attendance last night and while there were many exciting "highs", the "lows" seemed to squelch each of them. Lots of low-profile Reds fans in attendance. Not like how Sox games seem, but noticeable for sure.
  14. The more big moments for Felix, the better.
  15. Loved the intensity after crossing home plate on that grand slam. Hendo looked like he hurt some of our guys who were looking for high fives. Seemed like he wasn't going to be denied a bases-clearing hit in that moment despite Keirmaier's tracking of the fly ball. Since it was hit straight at the camera angle I'm guessing we were all reading Keirmaier's body language and thinking he was going to stop backing up any second to squeeze the loud out. Loved that it just kept pushing him until he ran out of room. Those last 5 feet traveled should be credited to all Os fans in the stadium and at home watching on TV.
  16. I can tell even the bobblehead is going to throw a fastball there.
  17. Is this a veiled Grateful Dead reference? If so, I like it.
  18. This is where I am too. Was disappointed, then somewhat changed by the premise/poem/conceptual details, and now (knowing the story) I'm not loving the execution of the concept. I see a black polyester jumpsuit with fashionably rolled sleeves and a saucy neckerchief. But like you, I like the concept. I have also been part of creative teams pitching multiple concepts (Bears and Bulls to name a few), and relate to how winning ideas creep away from where it started in the room where inspiration first took hold. Having never lived in Baltimore, but have come in for the Inner Harbor or historical sightseeing or games dozens of times, my attachment to the city is not that of a resident and its apparent I am not the target market for this. Which is fine. I get that. Judging the look after digesting the story AND considering the necessary function required, I think it's a strikeout looking.
