He sounds very much like Ryan Mountcastle, at a high level at least. Profiles as a bat first guy who won't stick at short. With that said, hopefully he doesn't have an obviously deficient arm like Mountcastle. If he turns into a 3B eventually, which is what it sounds like to me, that bat could be a real plus. A ton of development between now and then though. I'd expect them to take it slow with him.

The BA write-up on him says he reminds them of Mountcastle with the bat and that he should be able to stick on the left side of the infield.

Zach/k Britton has the 2nd-highest career OPS+ of any player in history (min 8 PAs).

I love that he put up one of the best seasons of any reliever, but he father always shows people video of him hitting a home run. ?

The early struggles of the Rays have, in my opinion, very little to do with their attendance issues.

Agreed. They have good TV ratings.  If they move to Tampa I think we see better attendance, plus the Yankees have move out of town which would help attendance too.

It should not be that hard to find an east coast team that is headed home to play that game. Mets, Phillies, Pirates, etc.

They used to play the Mets in RFK two games right before opening day.

Yeah, baseball was much more competitive when the Yankees, Giants and Dodgers were all in NY.

    Oh wait, it wasn’t.

And I’ve noticed how the NFL and NBA have put 3 teams in the NY area.    Not.

I disagree.  I think it is a bad idea to limit where a team can move.

What about giving up Delmarva? I can't imagine there is much travel across the bridge tunnel either way for minor league ball.

I suspect those people are more likely to stay Orioles fans.

Going back to the original topic...wouldn't it make more sense to move the AAA team to Bowie and let Norfolk go?

I wouldn’t want to give up Virginia’s largest urban area.

Rays do that for their season ticket holders. I remember a long time back that the Orioles had juice, coffee and bagels and danish before 10 AM for the season ticket holders .

Season Ticket Holders will also be able to access the Republic Bank Draft Room—a club area which will feature a photo station to have their pictures taken with Rays players, complimentary refreshments and hors d’oeuvres, alumni player appearances and more. Season Ticket Holders will also receive a 15 percent discount at select concession and merchandise stands.

They also had Elrod walking around to the tables and gave out a Jeff Connie bobble head at breakfast too.

You say this like you didn't read the part where they're just changing it not getting rid of it. Odd.

I read it.  It wasn’t encouraging.  Like watching batters 7,8,9 in the lineup.

We are talking about two different things. Baseball ops and baseball business.

Taking care of your fans is not the same as spending resources on major league talent that does not enhance the teams chances of winning. When young kids get a chance to see an Adley Rutschman or an Austin Hays it matters to them. This is about the fans.

To be honest Fanfest was the most enjoyable part of the past season.  My kids are going to disappointed.  If your on field product sucks, you need to do anything possible to keep kids interest imo.

It definitely had a big impact - but I think that impact was felt years ago. At this point - I think the fanbases are pretty locked in. Even if things were switched and the O's were great and the Nats' were terrible - I doubt Montgomery County and NoVA residents would be rooting for the Orioles. They're clearly a part of the DC community and identify that way.

The only threat to the Orioles' existence is if they are sold to a new owner who specifically bought them to move the team to whatever new city offers the shiniest, new, tax-payer-funded stadium offer. But, you could say that about any team.

I don’t.   I’m from Virginia, don’t care what they do in DC.

Hopefully the Nats finish this thing off today.  They have gone I think 81-40 since starting 19-31.  That is remarkable.  The Cardinals do what they always do in October....overachieve.  Thankfully, they are about to get stuffed by the much better team.  This will be a really good WS matchup regardless of who comes out of the AL.

It would be more awesome if the Nationals totally fell apart.

The Nats have  been over .500 every year since 2012 and have won 90+ games five times in that period with five postseason appearances.  They were basically done with rebuilding in 2012 and have been strong contenders ever since.  Postseason failures and successes have more to do with hot streaks, injuries, and luck than design.  A typical postseason series is a .625 team against a .575 team; in other words a coin flip.  We will be very lucky to end up where the Nats are.

You are not lucky if you end up in DC.

I think Akin starts the year in Norfolk and gets called up sometime in the first half.   I’d put Ortiz in the ‘pen.    He doesn’t have the stamina to start.

I don’t think I have the stamina for him to start either.

Well so far his bat is an issue as well.

Perhaps, but he and Severino are tied for sixth best hitting performance on the team this year.  96 OPS+ is above average for a catcher.
