  1. You've seemed downright mirthful today with your posts, old boy! Sorry about your surgery. Heal quickly and be well.
  2. Those post-op pain killers kicking in, C_o_c?
  3. I acknowledge I was using hyperbole when I wrote that Easton is rated the Orioles' #174 prospect. Actually, Easton is ranked #117 in the organization. Whoopsie!
  4. If this year were THAT different of a seller's market, than Elias should have received top 5 org prospects instead of teens. Because the gulf between Conine (#16) and Easton (#174) is far greater than between #5 prospect vs. #12.
  5. Meanwhile, I realize that the expanded playoff format has a bearing on how many buyers there are. Obviously, teams are not a bit worried about winning a World Series in a year with a short season. (There will not be an "asterisk," btw.) As it turned out, the salary relief was virtually non-existent. Had the Orioles traded Villar today, they would have spent @ $1.6MM on Villar this year. That's not a lot. The Jays would not have traded Conine for Easton and $1.6MM. Especially considering Conine signed for @ $1.5MM bonus...
  6. OK, but Hill got a really good prospect in Conine. That's my point. That Hill could get a prospect as highly valued as RF Conine, who mashed in his soph and junior years at Duke and has continued in the minors is truly impressive for a couple weeks of Villar. That Elias got bupkiss for an entire year of a signed Villar doesn't reflect well by comparison.
  7. Not really different at all: it's the exact same player: VILLAR. It couldn't be any more perfect a comparison. btw: both Elias then and Hill today are in the exact same situation: rebuilding and dumping Villar's salary. The only difference is that Hill got a quality prospect while Elias got nothing but salary relief.
  8. Scott has already appeared today.
  9. 1 Jeff's son 2. I guess that's sort of "their thing."
  10. Villar for Jay's #16 prospect, Griffin Conine, picked 52 overall in 2018. Hit 22 HRs in 80 games at A last year. Almost as much as Elias got for Villar in winter.
  11. I knew Teoscar would throw him out.
  12. Elias got embarrassed today. Elias traded Villar to Miami for low A-ball reliever, Easton Lucas, drafted in the 14th round in 2019. He is a "non-ranked prospect." And Miami turns Villar into rightfielder Griffin Conine, who hit 22 HRs in 80 games at A ball last year. Conine, Jeff's son, was the Jays' #16 prospect according to mlb.com and the 52nd player taken in the 2018 draft, fwiw. How come Mike Hill can a quality prospect for Villar when the best Elias could do was get zilch? What would Elias have had to have added in a hypothetical trade to acquire Conine in a trade for Easton? Yusniel Diaz? Grayson Rodriguez?
  13. He gloved it fine. Then he threw flat footed over Nunez's head from 40 feet instead on taking a hop to set his feet properly.
  14. Baseball America had Smith at #9 for the Mets.
  15. #12 on prospectslive.com Kevin Smith This 7th round draft choice was a versatile pitcher for Georgia in his college times. Now, after being drafted by the Mets he’s a full time starter and hasn’t missed a beat. He’s got legit strikeout stuff but for being 6-foot-5 isn’t that overpowering. He mainly uses deception and movement to his favor. Smith throws from a three-quarter arm slot and has a fastball that sits in the low 90’s, a tight spinning slider with horizontal movement, and a good changeup that gives him another quality offering. With his great extension and ability to hide the ball, it creates the interpretation illusion that his fastball is harder than it actually is. This in turn creates awkward swings and more strikeouts. If he continues with the quality outings he’ll be in the rotation going forward. However, don’t be surprised if Smith ends up being a dominant bullpen arm for the Mets moving forward, as his stuff would play even better in the bullpen than the rotation.
  16. Kevin Smith was rated the Mets' #12 prospect according to mlb.com.
  17. Though newly acquired Smith was used primarily as a reliever in college and when he started Milb, he was used exclusively as a Starter last year.
  18. Orioles acquire 23 yo lefty pitcher Kevin Smith for Castro https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=smith-012kev
  19. If the Orioles traded more players before 4pm, might they ask MLB not to release the info if it involves player(s) currently playing on today's game?
