I like that we have more ways to quantify and qualify. i refute the idea that we have created statistical Holy Grails. ERA was/is/always has been sort of shaky as solely definitive of a pitcher's achievement, but it's not terrible.

Eh. League ERA is the centering coefficient of FIP. FIP is about equally predictive of future ERA than is ERA itself. Really FIP is more reflective of a pitcher's current year's ERA after centering based on league-wide ERA than it is reliably predictive.

Sort of like a misplayed fly ball by an outfielder who doesn't touch it is not called an error. Typical scoring, sure, but a poor representation of what actually happened.
