  1. Urias has gotten on base in every game since his return from injury. The O's have won each of those games. He has been worth 3.5 WAR over his first 148 games as an Oriole. Pencil this man in at 2B for the next few years. Gimme an infield of: Mountcastle, Urias, Henderson, and Westburg.
  2. The O's are 13-12. I feel like if you zoom out a bit, this season is going surprisingly well. A few things to consider: -The O's have the lowest payroll in MLB this year. Roughly $30 million. -The O's have one of the toughest schedules in baseball. The AL East towers over every other division at the moment. -The O's lost their best pitcher, Means, and their best pitching prospect, Rodriquez, to season ending injuries. Yet, despite all this, the O's have a .429 Win%. We have a better record than 7 other franchises. We have better attendance than 7 other franchises. Mountcastle and Hays are ascending. Rutschman and Stowers have made it to the bigs. We've found a closer. (Hopefully) Means, Rodriquez, and Hall will all be in the rotation next season... The playoffs have been expanded so that FORTY PERCENT of teams make it!? We won't have to play nearly as many division games next year. We're not that far off. Go O's.
  3. https://twitter.com/PitchingNinja/status/1532143569498152967 His slider is filthy, at least. But, yea, these fastball numbers are not super promising.
  4. Ramon Urias could easily start 100 games at 2B for the Orioles in 2023. He's been worth 3.5 bWAR over 144 games with the O's. He'll be 28 at the start of next season.
  5. I think Lopez is most likely. Followed by Mancini. Then Hays. Then Perez. Hays doesn't have the name recognition of Mancini.
  6. I could see offering Mancini the JJ Hardy extension: 3 years, $40 million. If he says no, we tried.
  7. Among all qualified DH's in MLB, Trey is: 2nd in hits (61) 3rd in OBP (.374) 3rd in Avg. (.303) 5th in OPS (.822)
  8. I mean, I do feel like this team is more watchable than what we've seen in recent years. Younger, higher ceiling, etc. Plus announcers talking up their product is nothing new. Mike Bordick used to do this kind of thing all the time. He'd say things like "He really is one of the elite outfielders.." And he'd be talking about FELIX PIE!
  9. I far prefer Melanie Newman.
  10. I feel bad for Mancini. Last night was the first time all season I thought to myself, "You know, this wall is too high." Melanie Newman pointed out that there are balls that have flown on to Lansdowne Street outside of Fenway that would have not cleared The Great Wall of Camden. I don't like the idea of balls being homers in all 29 stadiums except ours. Freaking Wall-timore man...
  11. Urias has an .821 OPS over the past 14 days. I've said it once, I'll say it again, I really think he could be starting at second base in our next playoff game. Underrated player.
  12. There's definitely some old pitchers dominating: Verlander (39): 8 starts, 1.22 ERA, 156 ERA+ Wainwright (40): 8 starts, 2.87 ERA, 133 ERA+ Scherzer: (37): 8 starts, 2.54 ERA, 153 ERA+ Rich Hill: (41): 8 starts, 3.86 ERA, 106 ERA+ Romo: (39): 8 games, 1.13 ERA, 340 ERA+ And down in the Mexican League, 49 year old Bartolo Colon is reportedly still hoping for a chance to pitch in the majors this year. He went 6-2 with a 4.55 ERA last season at 48.
  13. That's a good point. I didn't think about the shorter careers catchers have.
  14. I think that is true, to an extent. But if you look at the all time leaderboards, catchers do seem to get lower WAR totals. All time, there are 15 short stops with a career WAR over 60. There are 2 catchers.
  15. I'll always love Manny. It was such a pleasure to watch him over the years with the O's. Arguably the most talented player we've had in the past 20 years. I'm glad he is thriving. I hope he wins MVP. And I'd happily cheer for the Padres over the Dodgers in the postseason.
  16. Just looked through the Top 10 WAR leaders in MLB over each of the past few years. There were a ton of shortstops and thirdbasemen. There weren't any catchers. WAR is not kind to catchers, DH's, or firstbasemen. Perhaps a fairer question would be who is more likely to be a top 3 player at their position (by WAR) over the next 10 years?
  17. Jordan Lyles leads the AL East in IP (52.2). He is 2nd in the American League. He is 4th in MLB. He showed a whole bunch of heart last night.
  18. Machado and Trey reuniting in San Diego for a playoff run would be kind of a fun storyline. I'll be sad to see him go, but I get it.
  19. If you look at his OPS+ (131), Santander is having a great year. Offense is still way down league wide. In 2022, average OPS in MLB is .686. In 2019, average OPS in MLB was .758. In 2020, Santander had an .890 OPS, good for an OPS+ of 135. In 2022, Santander has an OPS of .786, good for an OPS+ of 131. He's having a near career year, even though it doesn't quite feel like it.
  20. I was at the game yesterday. That home run sounded great off his bat. That error, on the other hand? Not so good. I wish he could just be our every day 2nd baseman. His glove would play better. By the way, he's reached base in 9 of his last 10 games. I don't think he's what's killing this team.
  21. Thanks. Good call. I looked back at that streak and I think this 4-start streak is even more impressive, particularly if you looks at the strikeouts and walks: 2019- 5-Game Quality Start Streak Means- 6 IP, 1 ER, 5 K, 1 BB Hess- 6 IP, 3 ER, 2 K, 1 BB Ynoa- 6 IP, 3 ER, 2 K, 3 BB Cashner- 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 K, 1 BB Bundy- 6 IP, 2 ER, 6 K, 1 BB Total- 30 IP, 10 ER, 18 K, 7 BBs 2022 4-Game Quality Start Streak Lyles- 7.1 IP, 2 ER, 5 K, 1 BB Zimmerman- 6 IP, 2 ER, 5 K, 0 BB Wells- 6 IP, 1 ER, 3 K, 0 BB Bradish- 7 IP, 2 ER, 11 K, 0 BB Total- 26.1 IP, 7 ER, 24 K, 1 BB
  22. I wonder if this is a polite way of saying: diarrhea
  23. When was the last time the O's had four quality starts in a row?
  24. This is what I'm saying! Tired of watching Odor make errors and put up like a 500-something OPS
