Actually he turns 35 tomorrow. I like the signing though. Low risk and he could provide a nice veteran pressence for our young pitchers.

Last season was a weird one for Means. First there's Covid, then he gets injured, then when he finally gets going, his dad died... The last month and a half of the season was when he finally got settled in. And he looked good. 5 starts, 29 IP, 2.48 ERA, 31 K's/4 BB I don't know if he's TOR or not, but he's a very exciting player to watch. I hope he'll be on our next playoff roster.

The Cleveland Spiders is a cool name. Better than using a race of people.

Not sure how much of the contract the Cubs would be willing to eat, but it is an interesting idea. I feel like people here are always talking about how to aquire prospects for the rebuild, which is obviously important, but if we're looking to contend in 2022 or 2023 or 2024, you also have to pick your veterans you want to extend to be part of that. A 28-year old former NL MVP could be that kind of player. You also need to think about which of the current players you'd like to see with the team in 22'-24' and consider putting an extension offer in front of them. All that said, they love Bryant in the North Side; I think he stays a Cub.

Man this is a real bummer. My mom lives in Frederick and the Keys are such a beloved part of that community. I hope they'll still be able to employ as many people and draw as many fans in this new league, but I doubt it. I've been to a couple games there. Great times.

Very interesting. And I'd agree that BB-ref's prediction of a .711 OPS for Ruiz sounds more likely than the .749 OPS predicted by Steamer. Also, Fangraphs predicts the second-most apperances at third will go to Rylan Bannon. They're forecasting 105 PA and a .245/.318/.385/.703 line for him. They seem to like his glove a lot more than Ruiz's too.

I like the resigning of Severino. Plus it can't hurt to have a little more offensive production from the catcher spot, considering the bats of the people we'll be running out to play middle infield next year...

I feel you, but in the last full-length season, Yolmer Sanchez had a .606 OPS against righties in over 400 PAs...

I don't like this move. I think Alberto would have given a lot of stability to the middle infield picture, especially with Iglesias gone too. In his two years with Baltimore, Alberto had a .735 OPS, .322 OBP, a 3.4 WAR, and a 0.6 dWAR. Sanchez is a career .660 OPS hitter, who actually has a similar dWAR to Alberto over the past two seasons (1.0 dWAR). Not saying they're equal defensively, but it would have been nice to have both of them in the fold. I've been hoping for a long time that the O's were going to be around .500 in 2021, then shoot for a wild card spot by 2022... So far this offseason, it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

I really hope they keep Alberto too. I think between Iglesias, Alberto, Sanchez, Ruiz, Urias, Martin, and Wilkerson you can put together a real nice unit of 2B/SS/3B/UTI. You have the depth to survive a few injuries and space for some guys to get more seasoning in AAA. Plus, as people have mentioned, you may be able to trade Iglesias (or even Alberto) mid-season. I also like that they now have Sanchez controlled through 2022. I still think Elias is going to compete for a wild card spot in 2022.

Yea maybe it's just the games I've watched, but Stewart always seems to misplay a ball or take an awkward angle or something... I see he has a negative dWAR again this season, but it's not as bad as last year's. I don't know, I'm not super high on Stewart long term. Homers aside, he's got a .208 average and is averaging an error every nine games or so... I know its a small sample size, but I think Mullins could be a more useful longterm piece with his superior defensive skills, speed, and versatility. He could be the perfect 4th outfielder who gets into almost every game as a pinch runner, defensive replacement, situational hitter... (Also, as long as were talking small sample sizes, Stewart is 1 for his last 16 with 11 strikeouts.)

I agree. Especially if they keep rosters at 28 next season which I suspect they will. Severino has the highest OPS (.921) of any catcher in baseball with at least 65 at bats. He leads all catchers in baseball with 37 hits. He would have probably started the All Star game this year for the AL.

The Yankees are in a free fall. After the Jays came back from being down 6-2 last night to beat them, they have now lost 14 of their last 19 games.

How about Nelson Cruz too? Dude is 40 years old and leads the AL with a 1.088 OPS and 11 homers.
