  1. Roy, there is no such thing as "whiny" when you are that passionate about your team.
  2. I had the chance to sit across the negotiating and lunch/dinner table a few times with Peter in the 1990's. Two things I most remember - when he talked about how hell bent he was in wanting the buy the O's. He wanted no more out-of-towners. Second, he told me that one thing to do to stop hangovers is to quit smoking - he swore he never had a hangover once he quit. Very loyal man
  3. IMO I think Nevin, Wong or Maton see OD. McKenna probably has the best chance IF they don't find anyone better - opt-out or waiver. Maybe we get another Super April with Mateo (tongue firmly planted)? Holliday comes up soon if he starts hot in AAA. Question - When can the O's select Holliday's contract? Before OD?
  4. I think Elias's explanation had merit.
  5. Actually, I thought he made the right move if he knew about Bradish before closing Burnes. It may have cost more. As far as free agents I don't believe it would make much difference $$ now.
  6. I said yes before June 1 although I know I am wrong. Just not ready for that slap in the face yet...
  7. And, this has made me a little complacent assuming the last two years can be repeated by sticking with the same process. Luckily, they don't feel that way or... maybe there is a secret sauce (?)
  8. If I was the new owner I would ask for it to be "completed" / announced as soon as possible after the sale is announced.
  9. This is better than waiting for the trade deadline... may have been forced to give up the same package for much less time with Burnes- or not be able to do anything and possibly cringe in the playoffs again
  10. The only good I see from all of this is that it replaced the Cease on the top of my feed. As far as financials I tend to believe that it is all smoke and mirrors with weaving octopus arms. Most likely, sports franchise value is in the branding value and rich guys showing their "size" to their rich guy friends at the country club. Plus, there are many other things but I digress.
  11. sad maybe but, to this day I talk about leaving them at home bit.
  12. I agree that we need to get the young guys bats... my recommendation is based on the fact that we could be empty-handed for both, and anyone else worth obtaining may not be moved. I'd pay Montgomery, trade for a Bieber or similar (depends on what the staff sees), keep looking at the BP. I would also be looking at who is available for OF.
  13. I would sign one of the non-QO FA SP's and move on. Use some of the other pieces for other areas of need. Montgomery or Snell takes $20-25M/yr for the shortest amount of time. (maybe a Sonny Gray-type contract (3 years, 75M)?). Is it risky? Overpay? Probably, but our payroll is so ridiculously low is it worth the increased chance to go further in the playoffs? What about the extra revenue a WS-caliber team that is set up to have a better chance? We have enough prospects to bolster other areas. And, IMO, if it is not pitching we would get a much better return trading prospects for more established, i.e., more enticing for rebuilding
  14. My only concern (not great) will be if we get hit heavy with injuries and the "next up" is a big drop-off. I understand that Hays, Ced, etc. are a year older but Adley, Gunnar, et al. are a year more experienced. I have many more "hopes" than "concerns".
  15. Happy New Year! Great tribute for great people!
  16. I just realized that this is exactly what I do! Thanks!
  17. All the litigants probably spent more $$ on legal fees than any decision made (not based on any factual knowledge just cynicism). Frobby - I apologize that I have never had the patience, let alone expertise, to read through all of this. Was there any breach of the original contract?
  18. 20+ years ago... Compare that to our GM at the time... who used a chisel to carve notes out of a rock. Fantastic... but does remind me of what this franchise had been. Half the battle is won. A change of ownership and philosophy would do wonders (duh). Heck, a change of ownership would be good for the fans - we would never have to suffer under the "Angelos" weight.
  19. This. If he could be a high leverage with closer potential that would be huge - we need as close to a shutdown bullpen as possible. Spending tens of millions on SP is fine (and recommended) but when a SP gets through their 5-6 innings then what...
