  1. I think our Fandom values both Mancini and Villar higher than the rest of MLB. I expect to see both in ST
  2. This is a good thing, when we have multiple higher level prospects where you can discuss pegging order at 2, 3 or 4. Can you image, they all succeed, and they form the next "core" group of Orioles?
  3. EBW might have wanted the team in DC. There was lots of RUMINT surrounding that, most of it helped get OPACY built. But, I think I remember reading, that EBW never publically said he wanted to move the team.
  4. I was hoping Diaz, but with his health issues, is he? Grayson would be my next logical choice.
  5. Im sure that when teams first talked 5 man rotations, the purest turned over in their graves. I suspect many are turning over in their graves at a 6 man rotation. Personally, I dont like it, but I suspect it will happen at some point in the future. My one con in this, you sign the guy for $31 mil a year, and he makes a few less starts, which makes his per game cost rise and you have to pay somebody else to take up those innings, But, on the pro side of this, do you save innings and wear and tear on his arm/elbow/shoulder, and hence you get more of your money's worth from him?
  6. I guess I was in that block of fans who abandoned the team., left around the time frame of Davey and Mussina leaving. I still watched on TV and followed online and in the news. I refused to spend money on ticket sales, when Peter was clearly clueless on running the team, I didnt come back until Andy was brought in and started bailing water out of the sinking ship.
  7. I thought it was close to 30% of the ticket sales was thrown into the pot and then allotted to the teams.
  8. I dont expect my super utility bench player that can play SS or just about anywhere on the diamond to have a high productive bat. If he did, he would be stating somewhere. I suspect if you looked at when he stepped up for Manny in 14, and into the playoffs, his bat would not be HOF, but it was decent.
  9. Good luck with your mission, Mr. Phelps. However, if at any time, you or your IMF members are caught, you will be disavowed.
  10. it doesnt brother me, well, it does tweak a bit, that it wasnt the Orioles that took home the Mirror Ball (DWTS toss in). Typically Oriole off season, nothing going on to talk about, and we get bored.
  11. We have nothing of significance to talk about with this team, and we just watch the Nats get the WS Trophy.
  12. My old bones long for a warmer climate, that's for sure.
  13. I think we have had long threads in OH about the quality of lack of quality around the rest of MLB and their team announcers. I know MASN guys are far from perfect, but, dang they are HOF compared to the Ken Harrelsons of the world, or whoever that dude is there in Stankee land.
  14. and down the stretch to get to the playoffs that season, too.
  15. I had yours, the second I read the list, and you are not wrong, either. And you also need something about a 27 year old minor league player about becoming "prospects". Lol
  16. I cant even have a 2nd team. I wish them well, and would love to see a Parkway World Series, but I have no interest in watching or rooting for them. I finally watched the last 2 innings of the 7th game of the WS, I just had no interest in either side winning.
  17. Good questions. I did find this old post https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/sports/2001/04/12/a-big-insurance-hit/42be2684-c5b4-4cfa-b685-31beb5816f50/ Basically, it sounds like they insured 70% of the contract. No information about cost, citing privacy issues. It did impact the players, and drove insurance costs up.
  18. did not know, thank you.
  19. Very good point. Some love to poke fun at Flaherty, but he played an important role here, and both times, when Manny and then Hardy went down, he was able to step up and play full time and while not at the same level, but decent.
  20. does the CBA tell the clubs at what level they have to provide, as not all travel and hotel are the same.
  21. I see those crying poor on OH from time to time, and we dived into it from time to time. For me, does the team travel well, or do they nickel and dime the guys, cheap hotels, etc. For those in the know, like Tony-OH, they say thats not the case. Another thing for me, are they like the Bidwell owned NFL team, that would not supply soap, shampoo or buy WR game day gloves to catch the ball with. He figured they were all making good money and they were on their own. Personally, that it tightwad to the extreme. Good ownership takes care of their people and their people perform better. Before Sarasota they were frugal with ST money and it showed. I think dumping money and getting their own facility was crucial and long needed. To me, Sarasota is something that is an investment into the team and money well spent. Some would just complain it was long overdue and decline to get credit where credit is due. (No pun intended)
  22. Belle recouping was mostly luck, and something that doesnt happen too much these days.
  23. ok, so lets play this game, you are right. 16, instead of 37, is 21.5, which compared to 200 million. nothing. Belle and 65 million in 1998 dollars, is the same as 100 million. Sorry, IMO, its wasteful, not in the same league and insanely stupid, just stupid. But, we can agree to disagree. yet again. lol
