  1. And how long it takes. He might still be available in February.
  2. The Padres are ridiculous. Their 2019 prospect list had 20 guys at FV 45 or above. White Sox had 11.
  3. Have they tried to trade him in July and presently?
  4. Or the market is just saying Villar has no value at his arb figure.
  5. Teams have until 1:00 Monday to claim him. If no one claims, O's have from 1:00 to 8:00 to work out a contract with him at whatever figure is agreed to. If that doesn't happen, he would be non-tendered at 8:00. If 1 team claims him by 1:00 Monday, that team gets him. If 2 or more claim, a team would have to work out a trade with the O's to get him.
  6. Do you think a trade offer of guys who would help in the future has been turned down?
  7. But we don't know what the offer was, right? I understand your point. You've been real clear. But my point is we don't know what was on the table. It strikes me as unfair to call someone a buffoon for not making a deal when we don't know what, if any, deal was on the table. Maybe your position proves accurate over time. I don't think it will. But it seems unfair to call someone a buffoon or incompetent when we don't know details. I understand that you disagree. Happy Thanksgiving.
  8. So you would have been good with taking virtually nothing in a prospect return in July?
  9. Do you think Elias has turned down an offer for prospects?
  10. Sorry to hear. Hope this year is better for you.
  11. The key to it is whether there are 2 or more claimants. It's possible, in my view, that Elias knows he has 2 or more and this puts a deadline on offers. But, as Luke has pointed out, it's risky. If only one claims, they get him. Period. But I think there's 2, at least.
  12. The holiday spirit hasn't hit you yet, eh?
  13. Going back to your comment about rich guys buying teams as toys, have you checked what Jerry Jones was worth when he bought the Cowboys and what he's worth now?
  14. And maybe the offer was inconsequential enough that it made sense to keep him hoping his value would go up. Obviously this hasn't worked out great. But I'm struggling to see where Elias is at fault rather than the market is saying Villar has no trade value.
  15. So you think Elias decided in July to DFA him today? And what did he refuse in July?
  16. As Luke pointed out, if 2 or more teams claim him, they'd have to trade to get him.
  17. And you can conclude that having no idea what, if anything was offered at the deadline? And you know he won't be traded between now and Monday night?
  18. Do you honestly fault Elias for Villar not being traded? I mean, instead of the idea that other teams aren't willing to give value for him?
  19. It's clearly not a slam dunk but I like the "all in" much more than a half way approach, talking in general, not specific to Villar. And I don't think Villar is done. I still think he gets traded before Monday night.
  20. And he's cheap in comparison. Lots of teams might like that.
  21. I think you've got it figured out. In Urias, the Brewers are acquiring a versatile defender and a potential alternative for underperforming shortstop Orlando Arcia, who is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter and whose status will be clearer following Monday’s tender deadline. If the Brewers opt to keep Arcia, he would have to compete for the job with Urias, who can also play second and third base. Second is occupied in Milwaukee by hitting star Keston Hiura, but third base is a question mark, with arbitration-eligible Travis Shaw in a situation similar to Arcia's as Monday’s tender deadline approaches. https://www.mlb.com/news/padres-get-trent-grisham-from-brewers-for-luis-urias
