They did send him down and he did fine in Norfolk. Not sure what is going on with him but he's in a bad way.

What I think happened is they were going to move him to one of the unaffiliated teams. Then he "retired". He was off the Tides roster for a few days before that happened. That's also when they moved Fontana to Bowie, as Lewin Diaz and Ryan Watson moved to AAA, from where ever they were, Florida maybe?

You almost had it!!! Although the roster hasn't been advertised, I was down at camp and with the exception of Franchy and that young catcher, the existing AAA roster left camp, along with Haskin and Handley. I don't know about the pitchers though.

Watson finished the season much better, with an 8-game hitting streak. I think he'll be back next year.

Rizer is not returning. I heard he announced his retirement before he went for hip surgery. I guess they kept him on the roster on the IL for contract reasons?

I have 2 questions -- 1) Given AAA can have 38 people on the roster to protect from Rule 5, how does putting people on the 40-man roster help at all? Some of the people mentioned aren't in AAA yet, and 2) why does an outfielder need to have a stronger bat than an infielder?

Yep, they did. Daschbach's numbers were so much worse and I don't know how to judge defensive skills. Looks like they moved Welk to 1B while Daschbach is out on IL. I think Mundy got a raw deal.

Too bad Mundy was released today.

With Henderson and Westburg, I'm not sure there is room for Ortiz. Not that I know how people are selected for trades in the minor league system, he may have better luck with a different team.

I think it's pretty crappy that Vavra has waited all this time to get the call and they bench him. I don't understand why the Jersey number matters, but at least Stowers got to play one game. What was the point in calling him up to warm the bench?

I think they tried Welk at 1B when he was in Aberdeen. They made Welk an outfielder in Bowie but in my humble opinion, the Orioles system has a crowded outfield -- 3 MLB guys, Stowers, Diaz, Neustrom, Cowser, Kjerstad, Rhodes, etc. They even have Vavra playing the outfield frequently, not to mention Adam Hall. I think some of these guys would have a better shot making it to the Show, if they were traded.

Haskin hasn't played since he got HBP.

Just paying attention and researching. There is no way I can predict when moves should be made, however.

Welk just started his rehab assignment at FCL.
