  1. Well, we will probably see both O’Hearn and Mountcastle starting against righties at times. One at DH and one at 1B. Other times, one will get a break and Cowser will play RF with Santander at DH or 1B. Against Lefties, we’ll likely see Mountcastle at first and Nevin at DH or vice versa. Depends on how Cowser looks against lefies, but I’m assuming they aren’t that confident in starting him in that situation yet, so Santander likely plays RF most of the time against lefties to start.
  2. You sit O’Hearn. The reason Mayo and Norby aren’t on the team is probably because they want them playing every day for their development and would rather not waste them in a limited platoon role. Also, I’m sure both not needing to be on the 40 man roster plays a role in them not being up. Maybe they want to hold onto their depth in case they are able to work out a trade? Either way, Nevin being up is most likely not going to last very long unless he really surprises people.
  3. I agree with pretty much everything, besides Urias being a guy who platoons against left handed pitchers. Even though he’s a righty batter, for his career, Urias has hit righties better than lefties. Urias seems destined for just a general utility infielder position. Ideally we could trade one of Mateo or Urias to make room for both Holliday and Mayo.
  4. It feels like you’re really twisting yourself into knots trying to find a way to be pessimistic. Addition or replacement, Burnes is still an upgrade over Bradish. A full year of an improved Rodriguez is most likely going to be an upgrade. Right there, that’s the top two spots in the rotation most likely being better than last year. The rest of the rotation will sort itself out. If you think adding guys like Lorenzen or Clevinger are really going to be the difference between having World Series aspirations or not, then you are really overrating them. Plus, Clevinger is supposed to be a cancer in the locker room, so he’d probably do more to hurt our World Series aspirations than help. There’s really no urgency to add someone like that when we have plenty of other options. If we have injuries, the young guys like McDermott or Povich could come up and fill in. I’d rather see them get a chance than spend money on more of these old back of the rotation guys that have no future with with the team.
  5. I think you’re really overrating Bradish if you think no upgrade has occurred. Burnes is a former Cy Young winner with a track record of consistently being good. Bradish had one good year.
  6. “Punted” is certainly a weird way to describe an offseason where we traded for a Cy Young winner.
  7. Careful. I just went to sign up and unfortunately it says the 50% MLBTV discount is only for renewing members and not new fan memberships.
  8. Sign me up for the KBO. As someone with friends and family on both sides of the aisle, pretty ok sounds better than what I’m going to be dealing with this year.
  9. They don’t play in North Korea do they? I never thought South Korea was that bad of a place to be.
  10. If Snell is willing to take a short term deal, I would want the O’s to be in on that. Doubt he wants to do that though.
  11. Probably smart to get out of this country during an election year.
  12. I wonder how much this Joshua Davis is making per article. I’m sure most of you guys on here could do a much better job.
  13. https://birdswatcher.com/posts/could-jordan-westburg-be-an-early-2024-rookie-of-the-year-frontrunner-01h9ya15aexn oh this article from September seems to think he still has eligibility. I just looked it up and you are right. He’s over the AB limit. When I saw that article I thought maybe we found a loophole.
  14. Could Westburg win ROY this year and get us a pick while still keeping the extra year of service time? From the things I’ve read, they get a full year of service time the year they win the award, but Westburg would be getting a full year of service time this year anyway.
  15. Yeah, in hindsight, maybe it would have been better to just play Westburg. I assume they signed Frazier because they weren’t sure Westburg was ready. Either that, or they figured Henderson was already our horse in the ROY race, and they signed Frazier to hold Westburg down long enough to make sure we get an extra year of control. I only defend Frazier because people go way over the top with their hate for him.
  16. Oh man, Im not old enough to say that. I’m not even 40 yet lol. My 20 year high school reunion is this year, but the 90s still feels like 25 years ago.
  17. I like it. Depth is always important and it’s not really costing us anything. If there’s someone you can claim that you like more than the guy in that 40th spot, why not?
  18. Yeah I missed that part. I wish the 90s was only 25 years ago.
  19. Washington has won 2 Super Bowls since the O’s last won a World Series.
  20. Yeah I’m trying to be optimistic about Bradish and Means. With the numbers Frobby just posted, I’m starting to think 25% might be conservative though if we are just talking about getting a couple starts. I was more thinking in terms of hoping things don’t get to the point where we need him to be a significant part of the rotation.
  21. Yeah even if we see Bradish and Means, there’s really only Burnes, Rodriguez, Kremer, Wells, Irvin, Bradish, Means, and maybe Zimmerman ahead of him on the 40 man. Thats only 8. Heasley is probably just bullpen depth and McDermott is definitely ahead of Seth Johnson. You’re probably right that he could see at least a couple starts.
  22. Wow, I do don’t know if I would put it that high. I’m a little more hopeful that we won’t need to dig into that kind of deep depth for the rotation. If he looks good in AAA this year, I’d more expect them to make space in the bullpen to bring him up. There are still a decent amount of guys ahead of him for rotation spots. If Means and Bradish both don’t play much for us this year he has a good shot, but I’m not ready to be that pessimistic about those injuries yet.
  23. Hope was the wrong word. I guess I pushed things more to expect instead of hope. You could definitely hope for that to happen. We should all be hoping for all of the prospects to hit. I just don’t think it would be wise to go into the season with that hope affecting what we did or didn’t do in the offseason.
  24. I feel like it’s somewhat realistic to hope that one of the three could help out in the bullpen by the end of the year, but I don’t think it’s realistic at all to hope one can help the rotation. I wouldn’t be betting the season right now on any of them making a significant contribution, they should just be seen as options in case we have more injuries.
  25. We’re just incrementally improving our depth. The hope is that we never even need to use these guys in the majors, but you never know what might happen with injuries. If two or more of our infielders go down around the same time, we’re looking a little thin now that Ortiz is gone.
