  1. What a crock you are trying to pass off. From one side of your mouth you blame the Orioles recent decades of losing on the owner. Then they change their methods and approach and become successful and you want to just credit that to dumb luck and maybe expert advise from yourself. I look at the owners as a "necessary evil". They seem to be keeping their noses out of the baseball operations quite well recently, so I really don't care about filling out a spreadsheet about grading their morals, family relations and personal hygiene. These broadcasters are likely all egotist and divas who compete with each other, backstab and are looking to become personalities who have social followings. I have 3 daughters, and some of the stuff I am seeing here reminds me of "mean girl cliques" in 4th grade elementary school.
  2. Yes, and so what. They have been cycling in broadcasters in and out all year. So that they are bringing him back means that you and your pals have to STFU about "they fired BROWN ??? Angelos is the devil incarnate. The Orioles are terrible etc,
  3. A great way to dirty up the Orioles for being so successful. Remember the Yankee comments "They don't deserve to win so many games"?. So many posters here seem to be desperate to sully the Orioles. Somehow first place is not good enough for them.
  4. Of course every rumor and slander is true. Awful Announcements broke the story first and of course they have mole in the Warehouse.
  5. No one in their right mind would pick up Brown to do their broadcasts. Sorry but baseball announcers are nice (if they stick to baseball) but replacable. NO ORGANIZATION needs a diva who causes problems for their employer. He should find another line or work. This is not the place for "social influencers" or the Kardashians groupies. Please remember that there have been a series of different broadcasters for the O's this year. It might just be as simple as they felt his style was not where they wanted to be going. That is okay, but all the drama queens got themselves involved.
  6. How sad. The team is in first place and "fans" want to find something to bitch about.
  7. And what is their source? What is your standard for corroboration? Do you really really think that AA was the first one to have inside sources and information on details of the Orioles? By the way, have you noticed what these terrible owners have build the Oriole team up to? Are we in first place or not?
  8. I agree that this incident sounds more like something from the "Onion" than something real. By the way, Brown was NOT the lead broadcaster on any Orioles broadcast. Had anybody here ever heard of "Awfull Announcments" before?
  9. The story was "broke" by the Awful Announcing site. Did you ever hear of them before?
  10. So a reporter for the Athletic has reliable spies inside the Orioles organization. Got it.
  11. So you don't like the Angeolos and anything that allows you to say negative things about them mades those things facts. Got it.
  12. Do those "multiple outlets" have any vertified facts or are they just repeating the same rumors?
  13. What a bunch of people getting their panties upset !! I have not seen ANY proof of a fact in this entire thread. Third hand rumors by people who have no way of knowing anything are repeated and taken as facts. ............. As for that announcer, he was poor in my opinion. I don't think he added to the game- rather he was trying to interject his style and personality into it. He might have been asked to change his style, and caused an issue or pushbacked. He does NOT have a entitled right to someone elses money and a paycheck.
  14. Well getting Mateo back to familiar with center field DOES give the O's more ways to get him in as a pinch runner and then into the field. People sometimes forget that if Mateo pinch runs for somebody, Mateo does NOT have to replace that person's position in the field, he has to replace that person's position in the batting order. So if Mateo goes in to pinch run for the first baseman, you might [1] move Santander from RF to 1st base, [2] move McKenna CF to RG, and [3] put Mateo in CF.
  15. I think the major reason for keeping Mateo is that he is another UNiQUE weapon for the O's to use. We can use him as a pinch rurnner in a low run ballgame, and he can steal second. He can be a pinch runner on 1st base and unsettle many pitchers who become distracted by him, pitch poorer, change their windup, throw pitchouts and have him get into their heads. ... In extra inning games you can stick him in as the ghost runner and on a big windup, left handed pitcher, he should be on third base in a jifffy. Just having him on the bench can lead to the other team changing their relief pitching arrangements. Getting the other team into various mistakes by overthinking is a hidden value. ... Nope he has a place on this roster.
  16. Yes. I worked in the semiconductor industry in reseach, development and manufacturing. We spent most of our time trying to model and explain the reality of data we collected, and trying to fit it to a model, which could predict behavior and that was related to some scientific facts and understanding. It was always a happy day, if our data could be matched to a simple scientific equation. For example, the resolution of a lithographic system with a constant process was found to closely follow the Rayleigh Criterion" https://www.leica-microsystems.com/science-lab/life-science/microscope-resolution-concepts-factors-and-calculation/ In the real world, you run into the problem where the "output of the system" (how the results wind up) depends upon TWO or more physical laws. Things just don't make sense. You can go to the extreme experiment situations and maybe tease out a start at the understanding. The problem with the "scientific analyitics based" predictions is that the problem is very complex and there are a lot of variable in play and often the "minor" factors become the major factors and the model fails. Just because there are numbers and graphs involved, doesn't mean that assures understanding. "Gut feelings" can be use to see when you are being presented BS.
  17. Has anybody noticed all the "help wanted" signs around town. Not to get political, but a part time service job is going to have trouble hiring. Also, do you really expect that they would be overstaffed during the first part of the season when the stadium was mostly empty?
  18. Was at the Bowie game last night. Yes, Mullins make that catch, looks like several that he made earlier this year. He didn't get any hits but was sort of robbed on a line drive the the 2nd baseman jumped up an caught. (returning Mullins catch of his near HR, I believe). Mullins looked okay out there but I did not see him doing any very fast starts and runs. He was doing groin loosing exercises during warm up (steping forward and swinging alternate legs to the side, bending at the hip). Looks like he is easing back into shape but I am not going to guess an ETA. Wells looked good but he was overmatching AA hitters. One Seadog hit a real dinger on him that went over the fence as well as the advertising signs in left field. He did start to get into some trouble in the 4th or 5th inning and came out. Holiday played good in the field- nothing had to be special and hit a first pitch fastball bomb to right field HR. Hit the middle of the Maryland Lottery sign. That forces me to buy $10 of mega-millions tickets. I can take a hint when I see one.
  19. Hays would be fine in center field. IF you watch TV or even a game in person, you probaby are not watching the outfielder at the time the ball is pitched and then batted. Hays and McKenna both, are starting their run as the ball is hit. They get up to speed quickly and have fluid running motions. They take the proper path to the ball and make a lot of catches in stride wtihout having to lunch the last 10 feet. Left field in Camden Yards is now huge and if you can play left, you can play center. An interesting read. Note the comment that center is the easiest position to play because of the nature of balls hit there. .https://probaseballinsider.com/baseball-instruction/outfield/outfield-2-tracking-fly-balls/ Interesting: where do balls to the outfield go?https://www.pitcherlist.com/going-deep-batted-ball-direction-and-baseball-savants-xstats/
  20. Well, crash*&burn in July,,, that didn't play very well did it.
  21. How good is Ortiz at fielding? The scouting reports have him listed as a 65, which is between PLUS and PLUS PLUS. For point of reference, I also looked up the MLB prospects rankings for 2023 at SS. There were 20 SS in the top 100. One of them was rated as 45 (below average fringe average) 14 of them were rated as 50 (MLB average) 3 of them were rated as 55 (above MLB average) 2 of them were rated as 60 ( PLUS) 0 of them were rated as 65 or above. Oritz is rated as 65. Better than any SS drafted this year. Why isn't he playing? [[ "60: Plus. Alex Bregman’s speed or Stephen Strasburg’s control. 70: Plus-Plus. Among the best tools in the game, such as Corey Seager’s arm, Patrick Corbin’s slider or Francisco Lindor’s defense." ]]
  22. I think they go the same path as Gunnar. Also, not being able to really predict how soon Holiday comes up, really screws up figuring out the sequence of getting our present AAA talent into the big leagues. IF Holiday comes up mid-2024, who do we need to move to clear roster spots?
  23. It is true that having 1-3 top notch pitchers is an advantage in October. But I think the rules of the game are still the same, then. Do teams with shut-down pitchers use them in July?
