On July 1, 4 teams were on a pace to win 100 or more games, and the Dodgers were on pace to win 99. Likely, none will end up with more than 96-97 wins.
In addition, the Orioles have been decimated with injuries, having to replace with rookies and players off the street.
I understand why posters are disappointed. But look at Atlanta, who may not make the playoffs. Tampa and Texas are out. San Diego and Arizona look like they are in, but you think their fans are happy with their performances?
Here, there are fans that want nothing short of tar and feathering an “incompetent” Hyde and an “arrogant” Elias with little consideration of outside factors. Somehow, we must be immune to struggling to overcome injuries and what’s happening across the league while ignoring that we are the #1 wildcard seed and getting back key players whose loss contributed to our uneven play - if you believe in those wild and crazy conspiracies.

Fire. This team needs a group of players that will lock the coaches and reporters out of the locker room and light some heat under their 🫏’s. It doesn’t just need to come from Hyde.
We need some hardcore, old school chew you out leaders. The question is, does this club have those type of players?

Burnes has a superior post season resume vs Eflin and others.
In my option, the opposing team would thank us and the league would laugh at us if we didn’t start Burnes.

My apologies. I was a bit harsh. It’s great arguing over a team that’s winning!

Calling fans sheep that may trust the GM/Manager, and may have logical thought on why certain moves are being made - doesn’t mean they also don’t want their team to win also.

Man I hated that trade. How good would Norby's RHB look in this lineup right now the way they have been struggling for some time now.
You do realize that just because he is doing well in Miami does not mean he would be doing just as well if he was still will is? Rogers was pitching very well leading up to the trade, but you’re not giving him any grace for what he was doing with the Marlins before the trade, right?

Thank you. I’m not a sheep.
Maybe not. But your baseball IQ shows you are definitely a better (push) monkey than a GM.

I liked John Lowenstein a lot, but I can't remember who he was paired with. Was it early Miller? I just don't remember, but I loved his humor, stories, and insights. I think he fell out of favor for being a bit too critical. But he wasn't a play-by-play guy.
Mel Proctor and Brother Low on HTS. Will catch a game of theirs on YouTube every once in a while.

I don't want that guy on my team.
The term “can of corn” is a baseball term for an easy catch. But its origin probably came from 19th century grocery stores that would keep their cans on the top shelf. When a shopper wanted a can (corn for example), a grocery clerk would have a hooked stick to knock it off the shelf and catch it.
Now, let’s say you are part of a team of store clerks that were really bad at catching the cans and the boss was always yelling at you all for dropping the cans, especially when they would land on the top of the shoppers head. You are pretty good at it, but the fear of the boss yelling and the other clerks damaging the cans makes you nervous, especially when the boss is around ready to jump on every mistake. Because of this, you start to notice your can catching skills aren’t quite as good as they have been.
Question - would a change of scenery, at another grocery store working with better can catching clerks and a boss who isn’t always yelling and screaming because the cans are getting dented, help make you a more productive clerk at catching corn?

BUT THE FACT THAT THIS TRADE HAS NOT BEEN BROUGHT UP MORE OFTEN AS A COMPLETE DISASTER, ESPECIALLY AFTER SO MANY WANTED TO TRADE BACK FOR HIM THIS WEEK?
You have done an admirable job making up for loss time and opportunities in this thread alone. Well done, sir. Well done.

The Yankees are a bunch of hyped up highly paid alpha bullies and they reacted as such. That formula for assembling a team rarely wins in the long run because their attention oftentimes goes from fighting the other team to blow ups with each other. It’s just a matter of time. They are losers.

44-22 and still #1 in runs scored per game. How are the doom, gloom and interloper’s feeling now?

I started following the O’s in the early 80s. The game has changed for sure, but I don’t miss how the game is played as much as I miss the way you enjoy the game. I miss This Week In Baseball with Mel Allen, the excitement of the O’s playing on Saturday’s NBC game of the Week, Brother Low’s and Mel Poctor in HTS, staying up late listening to west coast games through the static of the broadcast on AM radio and Rex Barney giving a fan a contract.

Well, now that we’ve established the hitting sucks, is it a good time to complain that this pitching is obviously over performing and will crash and burn any day now?

I wasn’t enraged at the decision to pull Irvin, but I did think it was poor management. He could’ve continued, but to your point I actually don’t think Hyde manages to win every game.
we have talked often about the white flag lineups, and starting weak players for reasons that aren’t very good. Hyde never does anything on a whim, I don’t think, but his reasoning is often flimsy.
A bunch of good players can compensate for a lot of poor decisions, But a lot of the second-guessing is entirely justified.
Let me be clear that hyperbole is by definition, never justified, but in a sporting environment, it is certainly understandable.
We won 101 games last year and are 21-11 this year. What’s our record both years with a manager who manages to win every game. Provide reasoning how managing to win every game that gets us better results doesn’t destroy our bullpen and wear out starting players without providing no days off.

Was pulling Irvin there the right choice? None of us know. What we do know is the no hit 2+ innings the BP gave us could not have been pitched better by Irvin.
Hyde manages each day to win that day. WIN TODAY and let tomorrow worry about itself.
He didn’t have to use Suarez (who could be sick complement to follow Means today) and Akin and Webb should be available today. Not exactly scrubs.

We of course will never know. I think that's fine for a game or two, but at least go sit farther up at some point so he doesn't feel you breathing down his neck. Front row 3 games? I dunno man. It's just my opinion that it's not helping him. I don't mean to cause offense. I'm just frustrated.
I’ve been an all world player is 8 sports - Toe Wrestling, Lumberjacking, Hot Dog Eating, Gaga Ball, Pumpkin Chucking, Tuna Tossing, Pillow Fighting and Bog Snorkling and I wouldn’t be anywhere close to being as good as I am if my super hot mom wasn’t there cheering me every time I play.

Thanks Mr Obvious … like I don’t know this!“I thought with the ownership change that Elias would change his approach. It doesn’t seem that way.”
I don’t think you do! This is your quote that @24fps and I responded to. Ownership has not changed so you don’t know if Elias will change his approach, but you mourn and wail as if he has had the chance and ownership has prevented a change.

Fair enough but Atlanta also has all of their stud young players locked up for the next 5 years or so. My point is that we do things more concerned about service time rather than putting the best players on the field.
I thought with the ownership change that Elias would change his approach. It doesn’t seem that way.
I don’t think it’s fair to make that judgement this early. The new owners aren’t even approved yet.
As to the points you make of locking up young players and service time manipulation. I agree I hope the new owners will make it a priority to lock up our core. That is something if the players/agents are open to, new money can definitely help. But because it takes two to tango and there is only so many dollars to go around - I totally understand from an organizational philosophy you consider maximizing the number of years you keep players under control. The longer you have them, the more time you have to buy out arbitration years and sign to long term contracts.

Bad BAD move imo. The excitement for the team and for the fans imo is worth a few wins alone in the first month if JH starts OD.
It would give the team a sense of energy that you just don't get by starting a JAG. IMO this casts a pall on the entire team, which has been dominating the entire pre season. Same goes for Mayo getting cut. Heston too.
I sincerely hope that they rethink this move(s). Imo it could completely derail the momo this team has. Team psyche is worth a lot. And this does not help it.
Good grief. How many accounts is Jason La Canfora allowed on this site? Comments like this are almost as outrageous as JLT’s Wikipedia page bio.

I guess the other thing that eats at me is that the options other than Holliday are better than him how exactly? We are not putting the BEST 26 players on the OD roster.
Wouldn’t the most important thing be to have the BEST 26 players playing at their BEST at the end of the season when it counts the most?

You didn’t just pick up McCann as a backup bat or glove only. You picked him up because you have budding top gun catcher who has a strong desire to learn. He doesn’t need and couldn’t learn from an up and coming hot shot Maverick.

While doing the 2nd half only stats, please include a pivot table that allows me to sort the following:
* Only our losses.
* Our losses by 1 run
* Games where Jim Palmer was the color analyst.
* Games attended by less than 20,000. I’m guessing the less people in the stands influences decisions.
* Times occurred when Rogers started so we can see how pissed off the players are on arrogant Elias’ historically bad trade.
* Occasions Tony seemed to be asleep at third base coaching box because the team’s poor play has caused him to be bored out of his mind.
* Stats when Rubenstein is throwing out free hats.
* Occasions when Cal films a commercial that causes the fans to throw a fit because they think it’s about a Gunnar extension.
* How does JTrea’s posts something about Tillman not pictured with the Calvary influence base coaching mistakes
* An Oriole gets hit in the head.
* An Oriole hits a homer instead of a base hit which would have lead to a mistake by the 3rd base coach.
I’ll let you get started with those, but would like them on my desk by COB. Thanks!
