And the next Yankees manager will be...

I feel bad for Mattingly. I always liked him as a player. Internally, I had some problems figuring out how much I could hate the Yankees next year with him as manager. I didn't want him to take the backlash as the guy who replaced Torre and couldn't get the Yanks into the playoffs. Now with Girardi, my life will be so much easier :) .

Off topic, but who was the guy on the Yankees, (during there World Series run in the late 90s) when Girardi was there and he blew off Jim Grey's on field post-game interview? He hit a game winning home run, and then refused to answer Grey's questions because he didn't like the way Grey treated Pete Rose the night before. Anyway, I hope Girardi gets him as his bench coach, so I can hate on him too.:D

Pretty sure you're talking about Chad Curtis.

I hope Girardi is NY's guy for a few reasons:

1) Girardi is someone I can hate when he's in uniform, while Torre just forced you to respect him.

2) There's a lot of speculation that Mattingly will leave the organization if he's passed over for the job. That'll be a dagger to the hearts of Yankees fans similar to Brooks Robinson's estrangement from the Orioles.

3) If Girardi was unable to stay out of drama with the Marlins owner, then the Bronx Zoo is going to be back in effect with the Steinbrenner boys showing early indications that they've got that same fake macho gene as their dad. Man, I hope the Yankees get off to another 21-29 start!

I'm not a betting man, but I really think their playoff streak ends next year. Talented young pitchers, yes, but former NFL player Jeff Van Note said it well: "Potential is a French word that means you haven't done anything yet"

That's a great post, Boom, Boom. There's something about Girardi I just don't like. On ball field, I wish him nothing but the worst.
