Dude needs help. He professed himself as clean after going through rehab after his last incident, but apparently that is not the case.

ST LUCIE COUNTY — Detroit Tiger and five time All-Star Jose Miguel Cabrera was arrested Wednesday in St. Lucie County on DUI and other charges after sheriff's investigators spotted his vehicle on the side of the road with smoke coming from the engine compartment, according to records released Thursday.

When a deputy made contact with Cabrera, 27, before 11 p.m. Wednesday on Okeechobee Road, the deputy asked Cabrera who was with him.

"I am going to (expletive) kill him," Cabrera is quoted as saying.

The deputy saw no one else in the vehicle or in the area. Cabrera, of Boca Raton, grabbed a bottle of James Buchanan's scotch and started drinking.

The sad fact is...if you deliver the goods, you can act break the law and you get LOTS of chances. If you dont, sports has a short leash for you.

It's not just sports. It's entertainment, the business world...pretty much everything.

If Charlie Sheen was an actor in B-movies or a minor character on some cop show, would he still be getting the chances that he has?

Its the double standard again. Cabrera will get see no jail time, sober up(hopefully permanently) rejoin the team, and I promise you...get a "standing ovation" when he returns to the Tigers. Patton on the other hand, unless he shocks the Orioles with his new found form, will drift in AAA or get released.

I think of it as the Steve Howe Effect...

I remember when Tony Larussa got a standing ovation a few months after his dui arrest. Keep in mind Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancock died because he decided to get behind the wheel of a car after doing the same thing his manager did.

Unless someone is killed or injured, people don't view drinking and driving as a big deal. And even when they do, many times the punishment is far too light for taking a life or lives.

IMO, he should face sanctions. He shouldn't be given kudos solely because he was lucky in not killing or injuring anyone.
