Guerrero Less Than Enthusiastic Being An Oriole?? Schmuck Thinks So

Sorry if the title of my thread is irritating, but it is just about the same way the Baltimore Sun titled Peter Schmuck's newest article.

I was not able to see the press conference today when the Orioles introduced Guerrero, but according to Schmuck and his new article, one may be able to read between the lines.

Schmuck stated that Guerrero's attitude that he carried throughout the presser was not enthusiastic and left room to wonder if Guerrero is actually excited to be here in Baltimore.

I don't know if this is something that Schmuck actually agrees with or if it was something his editor wanted him to write about to get more readers, but does it really matter? Does Guerrero's attitude during his presser affect your feelings about him?

I mean, I would prefer that Vlad be happy and excited to be an Oriole while he plays for this team, but does his composure at a press conference really state all of that? Pete does state that another reason Vlad may be acting that way is due to Vlad's attitude towards the media.

I don't want Vlad to be a problem in the clubhouse, but I also don't really care whether or not Vlad is still a bit leery about ending up here.

All I care about, is that Vlad plays hard, is successful, and is a consistent force in the 4 hole.

Again, I would prefer that Vlad be happy to be here in Baltimore, and that may just be the case. I mean, he did speak about how comfortable he felt in the clubhouse and is feeling very much at home.

I dunno...seems like Schmuck and the Sun are grasping at straws with this one.

Schmuck is grasping for straws, the man once said the Orioles back in 2008 were much further along than the Ravens prior to the 2008 NFL season. Vlad is not a media guy, he can speak English but as you can see he just doesn't do it in front of the media. He does his talking with his bat and his former teammates will tell you the same thing on top of the fact that he's a quiet leader who is a good teammate.

Dude's a psychic; don't you think?:D

I'm sure someone who said Vlad would never sign here will start a thread soon about Schmuck's article hinting that Vlad didn't appear happy about coming to Baltimore at his presser today. Just need to say though that you can understand Schmuck's position. I mean, he was probably comparing it to a rousing, explosive introductory press conference...you know, like Kevin Millwood's last year.

Not the Sun,but Schmuck is a bit of a negative vibe, glass half empty kind of a guy. Or at least that is my take on Schmuck. I use to think it was anti Oriole but I have come to believe he likes to portray himself as kind of a wiseacre. I think it is his persona and he can not help himself. In my opinion if he were assigned to personally sample a sultans harem that he would be negative about the overall experiance. It is just how he rolls.

He's the Baltimore Sun's baseball writer's version of Mike Preston, not quite as bad as Mikey but the closest version of Preston among the Sun's baseball writers.

Sorry, but I have no idea who Mike Preston is. I am an old Oriole fan that lived there as a child and still follows everything Oriole but once the Colts and Bullets left town I did not follow any other Baltimore teams. I read Schmuck every day but I consider the other writers on the Sun Like Connally and Zrebiec as the main reporters and columnist for the Sun as far as the Orioles go. I have nothing against Schmuck except that I think he is a USC trojan fan.

Sure Vlad is probably a little disappointed that the DH market wasn't better and he didn't get the 2-year deal he was hoping for after a nice comeback in 2010. But as for his demeanor at the press conference, the guy probably just wants to get out there and play some baseball, not sit and talk to a bunch of reporters. That would bore me too.

Mike Preston is a writer for the Baltimore Sun who covers the Ravens. He likes to stir the pot quite a bit in his articles and creates his own theories regarding inside info surrounding the Ravens. Schmuck isn't nearly as bad as Preston but compared to the other Sun Orioles writers he best represents Preston's negative style.

Schmuck isn't really a "stir the pot" guy IMO. He tries to come across as humorous, and usually is unsuccessful. He'll occasionally say something controversial, but doesn't really go out on a limb much. If you're looking for The Sun's Orioles equivalent to Preston, he is now a baseball reporter for Fox Sports. Now that guy could draw the ire of many a Baltimoron.

There is nothing wrong with this article. Vlad was certainly looking for more money and didn't have many, if any, other offers. I think we all know that if there was a better market for him that he wouldn't be here. I'm sure the whole process has been less than exciting for him. But like Schmuck says, that doesn't really matter if he stays healthy, plays hard, and puts up good numbers.
