Interesting discussion about The Cards. Are they ready to start with a clean slate next year? It makes me wonder if things would be different if they had not signed Holliday to that contract. In hindsight, did it boil down to a "Holliday or Pujols" situation?

I would have to say in their situation, supposedly not willing to raise thief payroll much past $100M, I would blow it up and start over at the end of 2011.

    • If Houston wins, Texas wins and Toronto loses: Astros will be the No. 5 seed, playing Tampa Bay And Toronto would play Twins in wild card and if they win , we face them in ALDS    i think lol
    • You mean like how Witt Jr greatly improved his defense from 2022 to 2023 while in the majors?
    • I am in no hurry to promote Holliday or Mayo to the majors based on their defense.  I think they both have work to do in that areas. Their bats are ahead on their gloves IMO. Gunnar, Westburg, Ortiz and Mateo are a better fit defensively to begin 2024 IMO.   Mateo fits well as a UIF and possibly a backup CF.    So I am not that interested in Mateo's trade value at this point.   I am much more interested in Urias trade value.
    • So you think Elias when interviewed by JA just said “Oh trust me, we will figure it out?”   Or perhaps he was thoroughly prepared, presented his experience in detail and outlined his thoughts and plans and process to rebuild and beyond ?
    • The full AL playoff field is set, but uncertainty in the AL West and second/third WC seeding mean that there are still four possible teams we might face. By tonight it'll be down to two.  While it's still a pretty open question— who would you most want our ALDS opponent to be?  It's an interesting question as I think all four teams are really at similar levels right now.
    • I show Bradish needing 4-5 shutout innings to leap frog Sonny Gray's 2.79 ERA.    12 outs is 2.7948 which is about the worst round off to 2.79 there is. Unless the Red Sox accelerate golf course mode, I think 3 innings is about what he'll do today, but with nothing at stake in Game 162, I'm ready for the first time through the lineup to be over in 30-ish pitches, and then maybe they want him to do 40-50. We'll be fortunate if we can get one or two Bradish v. S. Gray October matchups to settle the competition for 2nd best year in the league.
    • Thinking of possible ways to get some of these Norfolk guys in the mix next year. I hope they sign Adley, Gunnar and some others long term, but my guess is the best we can hope for in the outfield is extending one of them - perhaps Mullins in center for the next 3-4 years.
