SrMeowMeow
Not to belabour but just because he has protection wouldn't prevent the sun's rays from shining on him....and his fedora. Am I right? :scratchchinhmm:I just don't understand why Moose is raining on SJ's parade. :agree: Now back to our regularly scheduled debate.... Now this is a great question. I would say that if he's fully covered and no direct sun touches bare skin, the sun is not technically shining "on him". This might need its own thread. SilentJames
SJ, I know the sun is always shining on you and your fedora, but can you at least see why people are having the reaction they are right now? Yes I totally get WHY people are having that reaction, and in case you haven't noticed I have been very concerned about Lee I think the wrist thing has shades of Nolan's ankle problem from last Spring. Muscle spasms are not a disk problem. As I think McLovin' said on another thread the disk where Brian had his problems would have resulted in pain and weakness in his butt and legs, not so much back spasm pain. Brian came in with a clean bill of health, unlike last year. Muscle spasms are very par for the course and not worth getting excited over until they simply DON'T go away. Lee on the other hand is very concerning. Some of this can be chalked up to working a joint and tendons again that haven't been worked in a bit, but I worry that he will be just good enough to stay in the lineup but never really get right until like July. Aside from muscle spasms Roberts hasn't shown any signs of ill-health and he certainly hasn't slown down at all. Unlike last year when he came into camp hobbled. Nice new word for the vocabulary - slown . Sounds like the "parade" has come to a slown position with all the Lee hoohaa. We are all conjecturing here with the spasms vice disk issues and wrist tendonitis vice Achilles issues, imho. Let the games begin! :2yay-thumb:

SammyBirdland
Roberts shut down, to have MRI on backBy Brittany Ghiroli / MLB.com | 03/11/11 6:09 PM EST SARASOTA, Fla. -- Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts -- who saw a local back specialist on Friday because he continues to be plagued by back spasms -- will be shut down until at least Tuesday. Manager Buck Showalter said Roberts has had several "trigger injections" to help calm the spasms, and there are plans for an MRI on Saturday. Roberts will not participate in any baseball activities in the meantime as the team is still trying to figure out what it is dealing with. When asked about the organization's level of concern regarding Roberts, who played in just 59 games last season because of a herniated disc in his lower back, president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail said it's too early to tell. "We are going to get some images, MRI images to compare where he was a year ago at this time from now," MacPhail said. "Even in my brief conversation with Brian, he indicated it wasn't as bad as it was a year ago. "But we are just going to have to play it by ear. We've got three weeks before we open, we are just going to have to see how events play out." Roberts has not played in a game since Monday night, when he bunted in his first at-bat and dove headfirst into the bag, a play that he has maintained did not cause the spasms. Roberts said his back started acting up several days prior to that during team stretching. "There's nothing that we are aware of right now that's potentially a huge issue as far as we can discern," MacPhail said. "Maybe we will learn something different from the MRI. "Obviously, bunting the ball and diving into the bag didn't really help things. So we are just going to have to deal with it over time." A dynamic presence atop the Orioles' lineup, Roberts' health has been in question most of camp, although the team remains cautiously optimistic he will be ready for Opening Day. "We are at a stage still in Spring Training where time is on our side a little bit right now," Showalter said of Roberts, who was also sidelined earlier this spring with a minor neck issue. "I'd rather this not be an issue, as would Brian, as would we all," MacPhail said. "We'd rather this be way off the radar. But it's back on the radar, and we just have to deal with it." Roberts' back issues in 2010 provided ample reason for the Orioles to re-sign Cesar Izturis this winter and add a wealth of middle infielders to this year's camp. When asked if the organization felt comfortable moving forward with Izturis -- who hit .230 with one homer and 28 RBIs in 150 games last season -- as its everyday second baseman, MacPhail said it was a bridge the Orioles would cross when they come to it. "We will see," he said. "I don't think we need to jump to any conclusions. We've got three weeks to go before we open. We've got plenty of time where if we have to make adjustments, we can make adjustments." http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110311&content_id=16910982&vkey=news_bal&c_id=bal&partnerId=rss_bal

Lee might hit off a tee in a few days. Getting in a game might be a week or more. He has just a slight change of making Opening Day. The question is will he be able to play two games in a row in the Spring. I think he will start on the disabled list.
cindyluvsbrady
I'm remembering that Roberts dove head-first into 1B during yesterday's game. I hope it's not related to that. http://twitter.com/jeffzrebiecsun/status/45171771502104576 I BELIEVE My Perfect One:hearts: will be ok:pray: I love Him:)
cindyluvsbrady
Get Cindy over there to give him a back rub STAT. I would be willing to crawl over burning hot coals to help!!!!
crowmst3k!
Even with Brian and Derrek potentially not available for opening day, I feel pretty good about the lineup (provided that Luke gets out of his funk). The Vladimir Guerrero signing just keeps looking better.

WiredinBmore
Are you claiming that this was recent and not Feb 25? Feb 25th is fairly recent. If he can swing a golf club 70-90 times, why can't he play baseball? With his history of back issues, he shouldn't be playing golf at all. He should prepare for a baseball season so he can be an asset to a club that pays him 10MM per yer.
