Sooo, Bedard is history, probably sooner rather than later, is what I'm getting. He doesn't want to be here, and I doubt we're going to put together such a winner that he is going to sign off on a contract.

I would want to get back a couple of pitchers who project real, real high, in addition to about three position players who are ready to go. Losing his arm is going to hurt.

Bedard can have good seasons, he just milks injuries here and asks to be pulled early so he doesnt have to speak to the press after the game.

OMG !

If that is true- the man needs help. If he is selfish enough to put his dislike of talking to the media ahead of his job/team- that is reason enough toget him out of town now.

But there is a chance we could get a guy that could be just as good as him in the next couple of years. The Dodgers are my #1 target because of Kershaw. I'm surprised we didn't try to deal him at the deadline when the Dodgers were in it, but I'm guessing we wanted him to win the Cy Young so we could get more for him...

Bedard, the highest paid starter in the league ?

Would you like to put a wager on that ? :D

Even if he were a FA now- it wouldn't happen. Look at his track record.

The only way I would give him anything close to what Zito got was in the form of performance/IP incentives.

Beg him ? LOL. Like I said earlier, if he wants to forgo financial security now with the chance at playing for the Blue Jays (or whoever) in two years- he is making a risky roll of the dice.

But, if I were the GM- I would trade him regardless of whether or not he would re-sign here. I am not bullish on Bedard. I believe his value will never be higher and it is time to cash him in for two or three young players.

Lets wager

Time will tell man, It boils down to where he is next season. If he is still here, with no extension than he will play the same, and if moved to a better option, he may warrent that type of deal in 09.

Iwould expect position players more so then pitchers for Bedard.

Oh he would ditch us all the time. Even when he pitched well.

I agree, the potential loss of value is much greater than the potential gain in value between now and July. Play it safe and trade him now. I still think the Dodgers are the best target.

I totally agree.

We waited too long to trade Tejada.

If Bedard doesn't want to be here...get the most you can for him, and move on !

Not only that, he may not pull any of that in a place that he is happier being.

They won't know that ahead of time. All they'll see is a guy with great talent but a questionable makeup. If I were the Yankees, Mets, or Red Sox, I'd be very concerned about whether he'd be able to function at all under the spotlight of a major media market. Beyond that, no team is looking for a guy who is known to milk injuries. His performance is what it is. It's very good, but it could be better. They're not going to pay him for strikeouts or wins he didn't get because he didn't feel like bothering to come to work for his lousy previous team. He might have the talent to get into the elite group in starting pitcher salaries, but his career record at that point doesn't merit that and if what many are saying is true, he has only himself to blame.
