Britton has earned a spot in the rotation

I've read all the posts about how a team like Baltimore can't expose his talent to the big market teams and we need to send him to the minors to get another year of eligibility.

Forgive me, but this is hogwash. It's the way losers think. We aren't the Royals, we aren't the Pirates. We are the Orioles and we need to compete against the AL East. You don't compete with a squirrel strategy of hiding your nuts. The big boys are just going to come down with an earth mover one way or another. Spit in their eye, kick em in the shin and field your best team. If he's successful, lock him up to a long term contract before he becomes a free agent. The only way to compete in this division is to take chances and hiding our best players in the minors is defeatist, and just plain wrong imo.

2 or 3 starts now are worth more than 30+ starts several years from now? I prefer hiding my nuts in this scenario.

There arent too many scenarios where I would prefer to hide my nuts. However I agree, we need to hide our nuts here. We need to save our nuts for a later date. His early starts won't be worth the $$.

And if he blows out his arm and his career ends in year #5?

Then he is done.

Would these 2 starts have made a difference?

You want to come up with what if scenarios.

What if we are able to obtain a premium bat for Britton because he has that extra year of service time.

Would it have been smart to hold him back a few starts because of that?

Don't be a bitter old man who doesn't understand the modern economics of baseball!

You need to read a few biographies. Vince Lombardi never hid someone on the practice team. Ya, I'm old, but I know about winning. You establish the attitude first and then bring in the talent. Nobody wants to come to a team that hides their nuts.

Certainly not the Royals, they have a much better farm system. Keeping a player in the minors for 2 starts does not a loser make. Bringing him up and losing a season's control for two starts makes you stupid.

So, you are going to 100% guarantee that Britton would win those 2 starts and Tillman wouldn't?
