Britton not happy with being sent down, love this kid

“As an athlete you compete and you feel like you deserve to be somewhere and you are not, it’s kind of a slap in the face I think,”

He goes on to say that he understands the 'business' side, but he wants to be in Baltimore and clearly feels he deserves to be.

In an offseason where we have done everything we could to show that we want to win right now, this move seems to go against that aggressive philosophy. Heres hoping he stays healthy and Tillmans 89mph heat starts hitting the glove and picks up 4-5mph.

Does he deserve to be on the MLB Roster? Yes

Did he earn it? Yes

Do we feel bad for him? Yes

Is 2 starts worth an entire for sure season? No

If the Orioles miss the playoffs by a Game behind the Rays, do we all feel like idiots? Yes!

Fairly put.

IMO, if players showed during contract negotiations that they cared about how teams approached their introductions into the big leagues (i.e. does the question of whether they were artificially held back affect the dollars they demand at all?), I'd feel worse for players in Britton's position.

As things actually stand...nope, not in the slightest. This business is what it is.

It's easy to understand his disappointment. Hell, I think all of us if we were in his shoes would feel the same way but Zach seems to be a smart enough dude to understand that this is a business decision. Like they say in the Godfather, nothing personal, only business. These two weeks will be understandable frustrating for him but on the flipside, he'll be pitching for us for at least an additional year in his prime which is why I like many others favor waiting.

IF, in the games he would have pitched, are losses by the other pitchers, because of their performance. Britton could make the club, throw 6-7 inning of shut out ball, and we still lose the game.

Britton hired Scott Boras, he knows this is a business, he is reminded of that everyday by his agent. To then say it is a slap in the face, knowing that it is a business decision, is insulting to the fans. He knows exactly what is going on. He appears to be a good guy, don't pretend you don't know the deal or that this is somehow insulting. If anything, the rules are stupid that force ML teams to approach these situations this way. He should talk to his player rep.

If he hadn't hired Boras he might well be on the team now. Not real impressed with that remark of his.

If the Orioles miss the playoffs by a game or two, you can't even necessarily say that it was because Zach Britton wasn't brought up immediately on April 1st. It's not the same, but in a somewhat similar comparison, a guy can miss two free throws with 7 minutes to play in a basketball game. If his team loses the game by one point, would they necessarily have won it if he had made those free throws seven minutes earlier ??? Possibly, but there is no way you can know for certain. If he had made the free throws, both teams' strategies would not have been identical to however they played it out. Again, it's not exactly the same, but there is a similarity. With two months to go, the first two weeks of the 2011 season will have been in the rear-view mirror for a long time. If the Orioles are going to make the playoffs, then they will get it done in August and September, they won't be looking back and regretting not bringing Zach Britton up at the beginning of the season.

The point of the line u r replying to is to show the only real "Risk" to not having him up, nothing more.

I think you will see a change in the next CBA where this won't be a problem going forward

again the entire point of this statement is to say the only thing the Orioles are missing out on is a win maybe 2. B/c I Believe Britt can win us these games. However it isn't worth the extra year... Can they win them without him? For sure they can but Britton gives them a better shot at least IMO. Edit: u posted this b4 my reply, sorry.

Well, if nothing else, Zach Britton ought to be very flattered that thousands of Oriole fans (maybe even millions of Oriole fans) are arguing/debating whether or not he should be brought up immediately, as though the entire history of the franchise depends on it. I mean ........ a lot of us have been typing a hell of a lot of paragraphs over an issue that probably isn't nearly as big as we appear to be making it. :slytf:

Of course he's disappointed, but just so people don't read too much into this, "Britton is pissed and is going to have some grudge against the team"... you know who you are...

I'm not the type of guy that's going to go out there and complain about where I am. I'm not going to like it, but I'll go out there and pitch because it doesn't help me or the organization if I go down to Triple-A and pout.

I don't think anyone is happy he is being sent down, or thinks he should be sent down, or even thinks he doesn't deserve to make the team out of ST. It's the arbitration rules and gaining another season. It's business not personal. It's business not performance.
