Which outcome do your prefer? Which is best for the Orioles?

I'd like to see the Red Sox win two and lose one to take a little momentum from the Yankees. 2-7 is still a pretty big hole for the Sox to climb out of. Preferably the games are slugging matches and they have to overuse their bullpens.

I despise the Red Sox more than the Yankees, and it's not even close.

Here's how I see it. We've had this conversation before and others have vehemently disagreed with me:

In my mind, the Yankees are like a corporate boardroom filled with boring professionals with no soul and no character. The majority of people who call themselves "Yankee fans" at best might check the game scores periodically every week or three like they check stock prices. At worst they just like the hat because their favorite recording artist wears one. They're a tourist attraction. If you ask the average "Yankee fan" if they won last night, they'll most likely respond with "probably".

On the other hand, Red Sox fans, at least the ones in Boston, are a fired-up bunch of blue collar die-hards that take pride in beating you and rubbing your nose in it. I despise them. As for "Red Sox Nation", they are cut from the same cloth as the Yankee fans who check the scores like stock quotes. Red Sox Nation are the same people who were Atlanta Braves Nation in the 90's.

From a "what's better for the Orioles" perspective, I'm worried about both of these teams. I hope all three games go 30 innings each.

Or should I say, who do I want to lose least. I hate the Yankees, buy despise the Red Sox even more.

I want nothing more than the Sox to never come out of their slump and be the laughing stock of the league....however, for the sake of standings and the Orioles prosperity, we really need a Red Sox sweep...a push for the yanks and sox to finish the season to push both teams closer to .500 and get the better team further off our ass.

Ugh, tough to even think about. Sometimes games just need two losers.

This really is a tough call. Traditionally, I hate the Yankees more than anything else - but you've got to give it to them, they've earned their swag. You can't argue with the championships. On the other hand, the Sox win two World Series and suddenly they're God's gift to baseball. What a bunch of insufferable fans, worse than Yankee fans have ever been. It's really a lose-lose situation no matter who wins but I'd love to see the look on a Sox fan's face after starting the season 0-9.

This would be a pleasure. And even a team of the Red Sox's caliber might not be able to overcome an 0-9 deficit. They would have to play at a historic level for the rest of the season in order to get into the playoffs. With an 0-9 start they would have to play .645 baseball for the rest of the season to reach 93 wins. Even with a team that stacked, I find that unlikely.

I believe that your assumption about the majority of Yankee fans is not accurate, although I don't begrudge your feelings whatsoever. I've lived here my whole life, and I've seen them first-hand at the stadium (in both the bleachers and the other parts of the stadium), in the city outside of the stadium, and up here where I live. Percentage-wise, Yankee fans are by far more hostile than Met fans and Oriole fans toward people that wear the visiting teams' colors. I've been to Shea-Stadium/Citifeld as much as I've been to Yankee Stadium in the last 40 years. Yankee fans that visit OPACY behave much differently than they do at Yankee Stadium. I even had a man who was holding his two year-old kid actually start yelling at me and my Oriole fan friends and talking trash to us after a game in the Bronx ......... while he was holding his baby. Make no mistake, a good portion of Yank fans are very vicious. The corporate/sophisticated mentality that you spoke of is much more apt to describe a large portion of Mets fans, as opposed to Yankee fans.

2-1 either way would be fine.

Anyway, I think we have to be encouraged by how bad Hughes and Lackey look, and I'm not just talking about so far today or just basing it on results. The stuff is not looking good.

These two are rather important to each team and if they struggle throughout the year, their 2-5 slots in the rotation may be somewhat weak.

You just compared Yankee fans at home to orioles and mets...not the Sox. There's nothing worse than a Sox fan, be it true or bandwagon. That hatred overcomes the statistical advantage for the Os if the Sox win. Hope the Yankees sweep and then lose 100 straight

My bad, very time consuming to navigate on my iPhone. Delete if need be.

No biggie. If I had a nickel for every mistake that I ever made, I'd be a millionaire. ;)

This is really hard, but to be honest with you, this early in the year...I don't really care. I won't be watching the games because I feel that the Yankees/Red Sox games are way too publicized and are a big reason that their fanbases continue to grow. All the fringe fans are a fan of one of these 2 teams and that is what helps drive up their profit margins and, consequently, their payrolls.

I dislike both teams, but because the Yankees have been solid so far I'd like to see that change. Though, the Red Sox were so highly touted this offseason that it's quite fun to watch them crash and burn (if only for the first week).
