Actually, he wanted to accept, MLB is the one who put the smack down on the $6m deal. Still feel bad for him though.

Yeah, can't blame MLB though. They were subsidizing the Rangers at the time and weren't willing to sign off on a deal more than $2 million over slot.

I wasn't a fan of Purke's mechanics then and I'm still not now. I'd consider him if he slides to round 2 or 3 based on sheer talent, but with shoulder problems starting now, odds are already well against him to make it.

Right, I forgot for a second that Tampa has an entire draft's worth of picks in the first and supplemental first. Even if he's hurt, the talent is too high for them to pass him up when they have so many picks.

With that many picks though, I would think they go for a few easy picks to sign. IIRC, they have close to $17M to spend on this draft but I would think Purke would take a lot out of that.

That would totally depend on his medicals. Shoulder issues are not the same as elbow issues.

Depends on if he is able to come back and throw during the Cape League to re-establish his value. Even if he does, I can't imagine he'd risk having to return again. I think a little over $2M, tops, gets him to sign-on.
