Mike Mussina

ESPN New York ranked Mike Mussina as the 50th greatest Yankee. Now, when he enters the HOF, do you think he will be a Yankee or an Oriole? He spent 10 years in Baltimore and should wear an Oriole cap. Seeing him on that list still brings back bad memories. His departure was part of the beginning of a long (and still going) decade plus of suffering.

First, I hope he doesn't even make the Hall of Fame. Secondly, if he does, I hope he goes in as a Yankee. I've erased any fond memories of his time in Baltimore from my mind.

Mussina was my favorite player as a kid, so his signing with the Yankees was one of the worst sporting moments I've ever experienced. I could forgive him for signing with another team for more money, but signing with the Yankees or Red Sox is unforgivable.

I'm sure it's an irrational hatred, but Mike Mussina is the most hated Oriole of all time for me.

Palmer believes he is the best Orioles pitcher ever.

You can make that argument, although obviously Palmer has the longevitity over him.

I hold no ill will towards Moose. Would love to see him go in with an O's cap but I am not sure he will.

I am also not convinced he will get into the HOF, at least not anytime soon.

He should go...he is a no doubt about it first balloter but he doesn't have a ring, a Cy Young, an MVP and only 1 20 win season...Voters like that stuff even though it only means so much.

He was one of my favorite Orioles too, not so much anymore. I had his starting lineup figures and even when out of my way to support Stanford University when he got drafted.

He did notch 270 wins during the steroid era in the AL East, and if it wasn't for Armondo Benitez he may have gotten that ring in 1997. He was always a class act in Baltimore and was one of my favorite players (as he was for most fans I am sure).

When the numbers are as close as they are with Mussina I am sure that the Hall would let the player choose which hat he would prefer. This is not Boggs wearing a Devil Rays hat type of situation.

So when he gets in, it will be with a Yankees hat since that is obviously the team he prefers to associate himself with now.

I will agree its not first ballot, there will be a glut of good pitching going in soon, to include 300 game winners, Mike will have to wait a few years.

Yea and he won GGs too.

I think he eventually gets in but it wouldn't surprise me if it took as long as Blyleven.

Now THAT is dedication; rooting for a guys COLLEGE because you like him as a player. I couldn't do that.

I hate to say it.... but there's no way he goes into the HOF as an O... None. He'll be a Yankee. They treated him better, and he spent the latter half of his career there. But that said... I'm not sold he gets in right off the bat. He doesn't have the glamour stats (wins, championships, MVPs, etc).

When he walks into the Hall he can wear whatever hat he wants to. Not like he'll have to worry about making sure it matches one on a plaque, since there ain't going to be no plaque.

Do I sense bitterness? He'll get in. I agree with SG it may take time, but he will get in. He is in the top five of 1990s-present pitchers. Randy Johnson, G. Maddux, and then the conversation begins, but Moose is in that conversation.

As far as im concerned, as soon as he signed with the Yankees, he was forever a Yankee. I understand baseball is a business. I understand these players have a limited shelf life. But I can not forgive signing with the Yankees. It's akin to a stab in the back. Good luck to him, but I dont care if he gets in or not. I won't give it a second thought.

One of my favorite Orioles. I think he definitely goes in as an Oriole. He was a better pitcher for the O's. More years, All Star games, CY Young votes, gold gloves, ERA and the like. He had a very good winning percentage for both teams. He never won a World Series with the Yanks so there shouldn't be a world series champ bias. I know a lot of people harbor ill will toward him but I just loved watching him pitch. His signing with the Yanks was painful but I don't blame him. I blame the front office. His leaving in 2000 had as much to do with "writing on the wall" as it did with cash. The fact that the Yankess got him was inevitable. I prefer to remember the Moose who received the ire of the union and Tom Glavine for signing a below market-value extension with the O's in the mid 1990's because he thought the O's could win. If he makes it I will be in Cooperstown just like I was for Eddie and Cal. I expect the hat to have a bird on it. My understanding is that the HOF chooses the hat not the player. I know that has been an issue in recent years (Gary Carter, Andre Dawson). The sad part may be that Moose might actually choose to go in as a Yankee if given his preference.
