Willing to bet this is more a reflection that he's hearing PIT and SEA might pass on Cole, and the only thing he's hearing on the O's and AZ is them assuming Cole and Rendon are off the board (as I'm sure they are). I don't see any way the O's would pass on Cole or Rendon.

We can not be dumb enough to pass on Cole or Rendon if they are there, can we?

Not that it would be a smart approach at all, or that I'm even advocating it, but it would be a cool story to have both the Bundy brothers in our future rotation. That would be a marketer's dream. Just imagine if the Upton brothers played on the same team.

Not sure if the latest is based on signing bonuses, rumor or what, but it is not surprising to me, generally speaking, to see the some HSers start moving up and passing some college guys. It seems to happen almost every year.

I want us to take the best player available. If JJ believes some guys are better than Cole/Rendon, that let's pass on those two.

I'm sure JJ is very close with Bundy and has been following Bundy for years and would find it very, very difficult to pass on him.

I doubt it. I think you don't hear them talk about them because they realistically think there is NO chance they slip to #4, but if they did, all over them. Someone like Cole could be the difference in this division. A legit ace, and power guy to pair with the 2 star lefties we already have. I hear SEA is all over Rendon at #2, so the question is: does PIT want to save a bit on the #1 pick and throw more money at some later guys who drop? Does AZ want to shell out superstar money at 3 and again at 7? That could be their entire draft budget if they don't do it well.

Do you take a college pitcher who you rate just below Bundy because our window is over the next few years with our nucleus? I want a very solid 4th starter (to go with Jake, Brian, Zach). This would be my choice, but I am curious what you all think about this.

You can get a solid 4th starter in the 2nd or 3rd round. With the 4th overall pick, you take the best player. Bundy is great, don't get me wrong, but just like every year, the overhyping machine starts in May and gets out of control. Cole is pretty much what Bundy hopes to become if everything goes right. You ignore time and path to the majors, and worry about getting a talented player that will help our system keep producing each year. The goal should be to have a player or two ML ready every year, so you have to constantly replace the ones graduating to the ML. We have a bit of a gap now because we didn't really draft HS kids well 3-4 years ago. If you are taking a HS kid, you are prepping the system for 3-4 years down the road. You have to keep a stream of players coming or you'll get buried. Look at TB/BOS they have a crap ton of players on the way still.

Assuming Rendon moves quickly, Seattle's corners are going to look pretty good for quite some time. Infield of Rendon, Ackley, and Smoak isn't anything to sneer at, especially with Hernandez and Pineda in the fold.

Thanks. Man, we sure did miss on some high schoolers didn't we??!! When I said 4th starter, I meant 4th TOR starter along with our other three.
