So what did you think of Yost's decision to leave Hochevar in the game? Just a week and a half ago, Yost left Vin Mazzaro in there to give up 14 runs in 2.1 innings.

On both occasions, Yost accomplished what he needed to accomplish. But I'm not sure what to think or how to feel about it.

Hochevar retired the last ten batters he faced starting with the last out in the 4th. Wieters finished him off with a ten pitch at bat to end the 7th. If not for that, Hochevar probably would have started the 8th inning.

That really is remarkable. And it's too bad because I want to hate the decision from Yost, but it worked so damn well.

Love the move. You're either going to hurt morale or the bullpen. Which is more important? The beatings will continue until morale improves chaps.

I don't think it hurt morale. If Hochever had come back out and been hammered then it would have been bad, but he pitched well. I imagine his spirits were better when he left the game then they would have been if he had been pulled during or after the fourth.

Agree 100%. He actually did his team a solid, and I don't think it hurt morale. His actions actually would have made me happy if I was a BP guy.

That's the key. Hochevar was able to see that even after a bad inning he could still get hitters out.

Also, I loved what Craig Calcaterra said on HardballTalk earlier about the game. Basically something like "You let guys do what they know. And who knows more about giving up eight runs than Luke Hochevar?" :P

Yeah, it looks like Yost knew what he was doing. I was very surprised, but his pitch count was pretty low. And you can't argue the results. :noidea:
