Duquette on 105.7 The Fan: O's eyeing a college position player at #4.

Recommended Posts

I was listening to the radio on the way home from work tonight, and roughly around 7:10-7:20pm, on 105.7 FM, I heard Jim Duquette blurt out that while Bundy appears to be in the mix, he's heard the O's are looking at a college position player as well.

I hope he was referring to Rendon, although his tone gave me pause to think it could be a surprise. I thought he said he'd give us more on Friday.

Looking back at some of the fruitless prognostications Duquette has made in the past, I'm not sure just how plugged in he is to the current FO.

If what he said is true, though, I'd take it to mean that while the Orioles feel comfortable selecting an arm like Bundy, they'd prefer it if Rendon dropped. Which should absolutely be the case.

I think that most would agree that Rendon will not likely be there at pick four. However, we agree, if Rendon IS the player Duke is referring to, no story. Move along. If not... this could get interesting.

Who else could they possibly be considering, and it would be over MacPhail's cold, dead body IMO.

Rendon is a no brainer if he's there. He's a Boras guy and hasn't been totally forthcoming with his medical's so maybe Seattle takes a pass. I think Arizona wants a pitcher, but if Rendon doesn't fall I think its Bundy.

The scouting bureau has the medical report and it has been "leaked" that there is no structural damage. The assumption is that Rendon/Boras will release the report Sunday evening, giving teams a very limited time to review it, and only certain teams will have access to the report.

Thanks for the update! Typical Boras move, hold on to the data until the last minute. Another reason he may fall is because he's a Boras client and he won't be signing until the very last minute.

Could it be Fransico Lindor that could cause things to be shaken up in the top 5 (#2 By Seattle) .... He's been rumored to have moved himself into the top 5 and has been graded as the SS prospect most likely to reach the majors?

Academy shortstop Francisco Lindor are being strongly considered by clubs drafting in the top 5, including Seattle at No. 2.

Francisco Lindor is the top prep shortstop in this year's draft, and at just 17 years old offers more potential for further development than the typical high school senior.

Lindor has grown in the last year but still projects to remain at shortstop due to his soft hands and very easy actions around the bag, as well as an above-average arm. At the plate, he keeps his hands inside the ball well and has good hand speed, projecting to hit for average and doubles power down the road. He has shown more raw power this year after a growth spurt in the offseason although power is not likely to be a huge part of his pro game. He's an above-average runner who plays with a ton of energy and gets good marks all around for his makeup.

Big overdraft IMO. I think SEA takes Rendon, but I think they'd take Starling before they'd take Lindor.
