Something tells me that Friedgen knew that we had nothing to lose in this game, and so opened everything up like he hasn't in, really, several years.

Why has he not done it in several years? Doing it that way is his nature, it's 100% of the reason he got to be a head coach to begin with. He sure did it at GT, and he sure did it when he first got to MD and was using the previous guy's players. I just kinda assumed that he couldn't recruit the new horses to do it with (but I really don't know). How else do you explain it?

You admit you haven't been paying attention to them, but I have, and I haven't seen that kind of offense on this team since Scott McBrien left.

There are many reasons. The talent the past few years has been mediocre or young. Not a lot of good, experienced skill players. In 2004 the QB (Joel Statham) was awful. Ralph hasn't found the guy who can play QB and run the option like he had from '01-'03. So from 2004-2006 he fell into a pattern of playing a conservative offensive game and trying not to make a mistake.

And maybe that wasn't the worst thing in the world given the personnel. But now that's just counter productive. We have a stable of quality backs. We have a QB that can make plays down field for us. We have three quality TE. And even better we have a really good crop of WR with playmakers deep on the depth chart.

Ralph changed his ways once to allow for a team with a good defense and a suspect offense. But the past two years we've had a poor defense but a deep group of offensive skill position players and Ralph failed to recognize that shift.

Of course I admit it. You guys get to see it and I don't, and I'm just trying to understand what you guys see. Are you saying that he hasn't been able to recruit the right QB to do things the way he wants? Or are you saying something else?

Well, he needs the right QB. Is this QB the right guy for Ralph's style of O? Can he both throw the ball and get around the corner?

I'm still waiting for the positive rep I deserve for predicting that Maryland would make it a game. :P

Everyone else thought they would get blown off the field, I thought they'd cover, and they won outright!!

I'm also shocked, but I think I'm even more disappointed in MD. To think they had this sort of effort in them (and I'm talking both the players AND coaches) but they wait until the 10th game of the season, when it's likely too late to matter much, is a real shame. I can only wonder what might have been.

I am still in a state of shock -- I didn't think Maryland would see the end zone at all last night.

So... where was this aggressive play calling all year? We've seen a couple of glimpses of it offensively this year. But I can't remember a time this year that the Terp's D ran that many stunts and Blitzes.

I'm beginning to wonder if they will actually get the call to a bowl game if they can somehow get one more win. Six is the minimum, but having two wins against top 10 teams is pretty huge.

Gotta give it up for DA TERPS!

The ACC is guaranteed 8 bowl bids for eligible teams. As of right now 7 have qualified. Three others, including the Terps, are one win away.........Miami and NC St are the other two. It looks tough for Miami, they have to win one of two games on the road vs BC and VT.......don't see that happening. Assuming the Terps lose to FSU next week (likely) and NC St loses at Wake (also possible), then the Terps and NCSt will be facing off for the privilege of going to Boise, Idaho for New Years Eve!

Of course Boise is only a 6 hour drive from where I am, so if it happens that's probably the one opportunity I'll have to see the Terps in person this season. Anyone else up for a road trip? :D

Obviously last night was a feel good moment for everyone. But, I'm a little concerned that the offense put up 42 and the defense still let up 35. A little too close for comfort. Don't get me wrong... I'm not complaining... I love the fact that they won. It totally made my weekend and made the fact that the Skins sucked it up against the Eagles a moot point.

The game coming up this weekend will be a really great barometer. FSU, despite being beaten down, is still very fast. Maryland is really going to have to pull it together to get a win. I think the game vs. NC State is even more dangerous.

In sum, my feel good moment this weekend will only last as long as it takes for me to see if Maryland will ***attempt*** to be as aggressive. If they try it again and lose... then so be it. I'll be happy and accept the fact that they just don't have it this year. But if they revert back to high school offensive play calling and bend-but-not-break defense... then I will revert back to my cynicism about Ralph's abilities to captain a ship.

The defense was a little misleading IMO. Fourteen of those points were scored late in the game when Maryland let up a little. Also the presence of a pash rush outweighs giving up 35 points to the (former) :D number 8 team with a Heisman candidate at QB IMO.

I think we beat FSU in a close one. They are athletic but overated IMO.

It's been an overly conservative ball-control offense for most of the season. No shots to Heyward-Bey. Hardly any shots downfield. And, on Saturday, it was totally different. It was imaginative. He kept BC guessing. He let Turner air it out. That was the first time this season that I have enjoyed watching the Terp offense. It felt like I was watching a McBrien team. Keep that style of offense up Fridge! I think everyone on the team showed they can handle it.

And, now for my "BC fans are idiots" story. Walking out of the stadium, I saw a group of BC fans (all appeared in early-mid 20s). Two guys started arguing about the team. Then, they started throwing punches at each other (not punches like a guy in his mid-2os should throw...more like punches my 2-year-old niece would throw). Then, it appeared they got sad that they had fought. So, they started screaming "You threw the first punch"..."No! YOU threw it...I wouldn't have done that." Quite comical.

Ha ha, I'd make the trip w/you. I LOVE Boise!

6 hours? It's a little longer than that and it gets a little icy/snowy on the drive. Might be better to find a cheap flight but I'd definitely be in!

I did it in just over 7 hours in a moving truck......I figured I could do about 6 in a car, but I forgot the weather and roads get dicey in a few spots. Yeah, flying might be the way to go.
