Our buddy Chris Tillman had mixed results in his start for AAA-Norfolk tonight. Chris went 5 innings, and gave up 3 unearned runs. He did surrender a home run however, as well as throwing one wild pitch and walking 3 batters. Also, Tillman's pitch-count was very high for 5 innings ........ 95 pitches, and only 48 of them for strikes.

How does Tillman surrender a dinger, but show no earned runs? Would not he have at least 1?

Not necessarily. If an error is made and there should be three outs, everything else that inning is unearned. For example, Tillman gets two outs then an error is made. He then gives up six straight home runs. All seven runs would be unearned.

Not if he gave it up after an error.

I believe it matters on the type of error. See my response after yours. In that example, everything would be unearned. But in another scenario, let's say there are 2 outs and a runner steals second. It's a bang-bang play at second and Wieters throws the ball through Andino's glove. Runner advances to third. Then three consecutive home runs are hit. I believe all four would be earned.

His mechanics are atrocious whether playing in Norfolk or Bluefield. He gets no leg drive, opens his shoulder on every pitch, hence no idea where each pitch goes. His arm angle is different on curves, change ups and fastballs. If that's what you call it. Bergeson threw five mph faster on the same gun in Oakland. He, TILLMAN literally has to be near perfect each time out in order for us to be in games, since he is a sub five inning eater with a Batting Practice fastball with no late lie on it...

Next question your honor?
