It sucks, but if Posey doesn't break his leg it's just another play and there's no raging debate going on about changing rules. Also, I highly doubt Cousins was trying to do it maliciously with intent to hurt Posey.

Either way, pretty weird to see a GM call out a player like that.

I was just about to post this.

Awful that a player could receive death threats from fans just because he was playing the game. And not only that, but the opposing team's GM is ranting on the guy now too. Seriously, it's part of the game, he wasn't trying to injure Posey. If someone did that to Wieters, sure I'd be mad at first but it's still part of the game. It happens and I hope that they don't start making the game softer just because of this one incident.

I wish I could write to this Cousins guy and tell him that.

This is just so out of hand now. Sabaen is an idiot on this topic. Yeah it was his superstar player that got hurt but it is a play that has happened since the day the game was invented. And Cousins immediately reaches for Posey after the play to make sure he is okay. The guy clearly never meant to hurt him and to receive death threats from SF fans, especially after the LA incident, is just classless!

That's what I was just explaining to my mother.

Did Sabean not even watch the play? You could see that Cousins was concerned from the moment the injury happened. To say that it was a malicious play, after watching the way Cousins reacted to Posey's pain, is completely out of line.

Has Sabean instructed his catchers not to block the plate anymore? Treat it like 2nd base, don't obstruct the base path. I hate seeing players get hurt, but it takes two to tango. It's Posey's job to use his body to forcefully keep Cousins off the plate. It's Cousins' job to move Posey's body or jar the ball loose.

I liked what Rosenthal said in an article earlier...

I could understand (even though I disagree with him) Sabean being reactionary and saying these things that night or the next day, but 8 days later?

C'mon man. It's clear that Cousins obviously is concerned and upset that Posey was injured.
