Blake Davis wants his shot at the majors

No. Robert Andino has 82 PAs against righties this year. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if someone did a study and came to the conclusion that assuming everyone was league average was more accurate than using their numbers in their first 82 PAs against righties.

Andino also has about the same number of PAs against lefties, and is hitting .379. Would you say that the best estimate we have of his ability going forward is to assume he's Rogers Hornsby against lefties?

In Andino's career he has about a .100 point OPS difference between righties and lefties. Throw in some aging and regression and he's probably a .075 point difference. That's our best estimate, not some tiny split.

Well, first off OPS points are not the best evaluation factor for Andino because the O's have made it pretty clear to him that he is a little guy and should try to hit for a high OBP and not a high Slg pct. That being true his OPS is going to be low.

But lets say your .075 difference is right for the OBP. Then if Andino has a 350 OBP vs lefties then he is likely to have a 275 OBP vs righties. Sounds about right to me.

Sure, if you're going to be illogical, let's go all out.

If Adams is going to just sit the bench then Davis makes more sense. I'll give you props for calling it, but it's not the like the Orioles were filled with options. Since both Green and Harris have both "crapped the bed" at AAA, why not give Davis a shot? Nice to see a guy who's held on for awhile get a shot in the big leagues.

Well, in his 3rd year at Norfolk he has finally barely broken the .700 OPS mark. Not exactly an indicator of future MLB success.

The O's are just looking for someone that can actually play 2B defensively and hit a little until Roberts comes back. Andino is struggling at 2B in the field and against righthanded pitching. Davis is getting a chance. I doubt anyones expectations are sky high for a long term solution.

I don't think anyone here thought he was going to the heir apparent to the Roberts Throne. He's a guy off the bench who's been seeing the ball well in AAA and earned his shot. I think it's ridiculous to say his promotion is "irrational".
