Feeling better about Reynolds yet?

Recommended Posts

As a starter of a "I am concerned about Reynolds" thread I will say I am feeling a little better about him right now. He doesn't seem as lost. Now.....he'd better not go in a slump or I will never admit to anything like that again due to the jinx factor I seem to have.

Now....I MUSt get back to Gurgi's mushroom and LSD thread.

His OPS was .704 yesterday, now at .728. I'd say if he continues to hit HR he should have it close to .800 by July 1. His pace the last month is .840 which is about what you'd expect from him.

Yeah, this. A 1.000 OPS over the course of 30 days isn't exactly impossible.

I'll be happy with Reynolds when he is hitting at least .240. That isn't all that much to ask. Though he is improving.
Oh Please. His BA is meaningless. That's not his game. The guy leads the club in RBI's, HR's and walks. That's a lot better than just about everyone else who has a higher BA, except maybe Adam Jones.

Exactly. Even when he was "struggling" he was drawing the most pitches per AB, and he was drawing walks. Hes a quality player and one we are lucky to have.

Tonight my brother and I did the "come on Mark, hit it out da ball park" chant, and he crushed the next pitch.

Yes, I feel better about Reynolds. As long as the power and walks, he's doing what he's supposed to. If he can eclipse 30 HR this year, I'll feel great going into next season.

Reynolds is coming around, but is still work -.3 WAR.

By the end of it, probably 1-1.5WAR

Not exactly world beating from third base.

Even before last night his fWAR was at 0.0 and his rWAR was 0.4, and that's mainly because his fielding numbers are off the charts bad. If he keeps hitting and his fielding returns to career norms he'll be a fine player, at least an average MLB third baseman.

Yes, and I like his "RISP game" in particular:

.289/.393/.533 for a .926 OPS and 22 RBIs in 45 ABs!

And since you mentioned AJ, look at his RISP:

.354/.407/.625 for a 1.032 OPS and 27 RBIs in 48 ABs!

Wieters:

.500/.569/.833 for a 1.393 OPS and 26 RBIs in 42 ABs. :eektf:

I'm not going to go so far as to say his BA is "meaningless." BA is a large driver of OBP, and despite all his walks, his current OBP of .315 would be a career low. I'd really like to see an OBP of at least .330, regardless of how he gets there.

Has there been anyone who exemplifies the notion that BA isn't that important more than Reynolds?

Its meaningless in the sense of, "I'll be happy with Reynolds when he is hitting at least .240," though.

And lol at everybody saying they always believed in him.

Why would you "lol" at everyone who believed in him? The few who emotionally overreact to SSS are not representative of the whole. The majority of posters here are intelligent and thoughtful and tend to see the big picture.

Yeah, I just stayed out of it. I had faith in Reynolds, but when some people were so adamant that he was doomed to fail, I just decided to save my breath for the most part.

I agree the majority of posters here are intelligent but for a while there we had a new Mark Reynolds thread every day. Clearly some people didn't believe in him.
