ShaneDawg85
While it is archaic to some people, I still value batting average. I love seeing a high batting average. However, I'm not so in love with it that I ignore other valuable stats and numbers, and Reynolds has provided, and despite his early struggles is still providing them this season. El Gordo
.169 .253 .313 .566 April .215 .348 .430 .778 May .250 .400 .750 1.150 June .294 .429 .882 1.311 Last 7 days Which one of these is not like the other? I may be crazy but I see a trend here, but yeah he is only hitting .199 with a .315 OBP for the season because of his crappy first 83 AB adjusting to a new league, and the next 113 AB are just a fluke, bench him.:rolleyestf:

Roll Tide
I'd like to see him batting better than .230....Actually I was hoping that under the instruction of a new hitting coach he might get near or over .250. He certainly is on a roll and if he stays hot he will be near .230 soon. I'd say he's doing ok.
Frobby
He also struck out twice in situations where runners could have been advanced. I'll take the tradeoff, but this game showed both Reynolds' strengths and his weaknesses.

If he had the potential to hit .300 like some players on this team producing anemically so far, then I'd be concerned. But the guy is on pace for 31 HR and 95 RBI's with 83 BB's after a poor start. Who cares about the difference between a BA of .230 and. 250?

Who cares about the difference between a BA of .230 and. 250? I wouldn't mind the better batting average, because it ups his OBP and gives other batters a chance to drive him in. That said, I don't one bit mind his batting average. We brought him in for 3 things: hit extra base hits, walk, and play decent D. Now, the 3rd is up and down, but the rest has been his MO and he's been successful. Go get 'em, Mark. You're my homie.

Actually, the Orioles brought him in for two main things: offense and defense. I'll take the batting average if his overall offensive contributions are still good, which they have been. I'll take a guy who hits .140 if he's still an above average run producer, but doing that while hitting .140 is nearly impossible. It's not easy hitting .190 - there have only been a handful of seasons in all of MLB history where a guy hit below the Mendoza line and still was above average. Maybe not last night, but he's struck out in situations where he could have killed a rally altogether by trying to make contact and hitting a two-hopper to second. His career average is .239. if he regresses to his mean and puts up a career average 239. .332 .480 the rest of the way, he will have well over 100 RBI's 35 HR's and close to 100 BB's.
