Dylan Bundy says he would hit Bryce Harper 'all four at-bats'

Are there sportswriters at institutions that you see a trend with and when they cover a story in that area, you know you have to filter through it somewhat? Works that way just about everywhere else.

I don't pay that much attention to sportswriters, but there are certainly scouts whose information needs to be filtered. :)

Oh, that part...I thought he meant the other stuff. Yeah I wasn't a fan of that BP piece at all, it was actually the biggest reason I made sure to catch him at practice while I was out there.

Actually I as referring to the good side story.. but agree positive based stories don't get ratings.

Is there anyone on a national level (no shun intended) printing / has printed this side of the story? Seems like it needs to be told.

It's up to the Nats to help him mold the appropriate image. My impression is that he's cocky, but how couldn't he be cocky, and do I really mind? Dylan Bundy is probably cocky too. Couple that with the heat he must constantly hear because of his hype and it must be hard to deal with.

By the way, blowing a kiss to an opposing pitcher isn't exactly the equivalent of Ron Artest going into the crowd to beat someone up.

Wasn't it FOX 5 that was out there that day? They have been covering every time Bryce eats a meal. "coming up on Fox 5, Nats prospect Bryce Harper is trying to decide between grilling chicken or eating pizza, tune in to find out which he chooses"

The kid is 18 and in A ball, find something more interesting to cover people.

Not sure why this part was addressed to me, but I agree with it.

Nah, nothing directed to you. It was just the end of my overall response.

Even though I'm 1,000,000 miles removed from situations like this, I feel for people who get the ridiculous heat they get. Yeah, it comes with the money and upside of fame, but that doesn't make it right.

Harper's an amazing prospect who is absolutely showing his talent in the minors. That should be the story.

That's funny and at the same time it's sad. They'd pass on that story if there weren't enough babble-heads tuning in to watch it. Show's like Chicago Code, The Event, Law and Order LA are cancelled and reality TV is blasting off.....

By the way, I do think Bryce brings some of this on himself. He does not seem as "nice" as Machado, for example.

I just wonder how "nice" anyone would be on the field after half a decade of being confronted on a game-to-game basis, heckled, told you were all hype, disproving naysayers, and hearing the exact same thing next time out...

Did ARod go through this?

He could have gone the route of the humble superstar. He hasn't. It's hard to blame that on anyone but himself. Some of that heckling is brought on by himself.

His is a very natural human response, so I don't think it means he's a bad guy. He could take a different approach though.

No, I said "scouts". :eek::laughlol:;)

Ohhh, right, yeah missed that....jerk. ;) jk

See look, now you are going to make me take this all seriously next year and actually start doing it right again. I don't know how you did it this year with the little one, work and scouting. Having two of them this year just really killed any chance for me to do anything substantial until May.

I think you are confusing the two aspects. There is the media, public face humble superstar thing. Then there is the on-field stuff. Nick isn't talking about the fans heckling him, it's the other players, even sometimes your own teammates. Sometimes in the minors you'll even see your own teammates giving you a hard time because you were a "bonus baby" and Harper is like 4 times worse than that because he set a bonus record and he is so young. It just gets old hearing all that stuff all the time, it gets pretty ruthless sometimes. It gets a little better when he gets to those stages where he might have a little older mentor to help stick up for you (think an enforcer in hockey), which I think is part of the reason they are talking about sending his brother to the bullpen on his team.
