I swear, major-league manager is such a terrible job that I'm surprised Mike Rowe hasn't done it for a day.

Not only do you have to deal with scheduling and lineups and rotations and coaching...not only do you have to soothe egos and inspire confidence in the already-overconfident...not only do you have to sit through the media and fans and even players second-guessing everything you do...not only is every job almost guaranteed to end in a pink slip and general celebration by all...but there's no conclusive evidence that anything you do has any real effect on winning games.

All Beane had to do was assemble a mediocre hitting team and they'd be in first place.

Not shocked by this. The writing was on the wall the minute his closer came out on tv and said the things he did. Throw in the fact former players were saying how awful he was..it was clear he didn't have respect from the team.

If he "ruined" the careers of the pitchers he worked with then why do they have the lowest ERA in the A.L.? Fuentes, et. al didn't like the roles they were put in? Waaaah.
