Ryan Meyer - 32nd Round Pick - Some Info

Recommended Posts

I thought I would collect and present some info on Ryan Meyer, our 32nd round pick, a projectable high school RHP out of Oviedo HS in Florida. Meyer has a commitment to Central Florida. Based on the below, one would have to think the UCF commit is pretty solid and that JJ would have to put up some nice $ to buy that out. Meyer seems like a pretty good arm to add to our stable if possible.

Meyer was listed on many Top high school top 100 (Baseball America, Baseball Factory, Sporting News - all top 85) lists in the fall, but appears to have fallen off - possibly due to injury as hinted by the OH's Jammer as posted below:

I saw him pitch against Timber Creek in High School (6A) playoffs a month or so ago. He was supposedly out for a while this season with an unknown injury, but looked very good (low 90's) velocity wise. I obviously didn't have a gun on him. He repeated his mechanics, smooth delivery and appears fairly athletic. His command was very solid and his curveball had downward two-plane movement. I was impressed with him. I talked with Dante Bichette on him and he was impressed with what he saw. I forget where the kid was committed to school, but I was told he would likely go to school. Edit, school is UCF. So, the local school may be hard to beat unless we really show him the money.

Meyer did pitch in a showcase event - the Florida Athletic Coaches Association’s All-Star Baseball Classic - in front of scouts.

I found the following reports:

From Perfect Game with additional reports - Ryan Meyer is a 2011 RHP with a 6-5 192 lb. frame from Oviedo, FL who attends Oviedo HS. Slender tall build with very long legs and arms. Well paced delivery with clean easy arm circle, arm is loose and tension free out front, 3/4's release. 87-91 mph fastball, lots more velocity in there, FB gets contsistent running action, 81 mph slider is potential plus pitch, hard bite with good tilt, very consistent, can pitch in and out and spot both pitches with maturity. Tends to rush/drift from the stretch and lose velocity. Extremely projectable with 2 potential plus pitches. Good student, verbal commitment to Central Florida.

Prospect Wire from PG National Showcase - Ryan Meyer is an intriguing righty to pro scouts because of his long 6’5” frame and flashes of arm-strength, but it’s more potential than production at the moment. Meyer has committed early to Central Florida and 3-4 years there could really bring out his upside...
