I just imagine a board meeting:

Suit #1: Any new t-shirt ideas?

Suit #2: Well we have won 7 world series. We should create a t-shirt bragging about it and inferring that fans of other teams are jealous.

Suit #3: While that's true, we've only won 2 world series in like the past 90+ years. There's probably like 1 fan left that remembers 1918.

The Oakland A's also have more than Boston does. And if not for the infamous Gibson home run which set the tone for the 88 World Series, they might have had more.
