Hobgood, Berry and Bywater throw one shutout inning in GCL opener

Clemens was strong but WAY leaner than Hobgood coming out of UT. I do agree there is a resemblence between Hobgood and some of the older versions of Clemens. Definitely a big, strong kid.

A little alarming when you're resembling 40 YO Clemens at age 19, though...

Today:

Hobgood - 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R (1 ER), BB, K

Berry - 2 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 0 K

Bywater - 1.1 IP, H, ER, 3 BB, K

Glynn Davis now has his average up to .462 after three hits today. Jerome Pena is at .500 and Manuel Hernandez is at .389. Hernandez is only 18, prospect?

Great find.

Hobgood does indeed look to be in better shape, but honestly, I'm not that encouraged by the video. His motion looks eerily similar to Sidney Ponson, very inconsistent in arm slot and landing/finish. It does not inspire much confidence in his ability to repeat the delivery. And, maybe it was just the angle on the video, but he does not appear to get good extension with his arm, may be indicative of never regaining low-mid 90's velocity.

2 good innings out of hobgood today.

Hobgood gave up 1 hit with 2 K's

Good to see Hobgood is healthy and getting rookies out. I'd like to see him moved up to Aberdeen or Delmarva soon, though I hear he's still sitting 86-89.
