Why don't they sell the naming rights to OPACY?

Here's a quote from a Peter King article about the Bungles:

It's a well-worn saw around the league that if Mike Brown wants his Bengals to be closer to the high-revenue teams, he should sell the naming rights to Paul Brown Stadium instead of keeping his dad's name on it.

That got me thinking; how much money are the O's missing out on here? As much as I'd hate calling OPACY "State Farm Park" or something similar, its essentially free money the O's are leaving on the table.

I'm sure some of you will chime in with, "Angelos wouldn't spend it anyway". Probably right, but that doesn't mean its not a good idea. According to this, most teams are getting between 2-3 million per year. That could supplement quite a few things, like our draft or international signings (so could avoiding the Vlads of the world, but again that's not the point here).

They should absolutely consider selling the naming rights.

Dude, I went out of my way to state that in my post. Why not make your budget 2.5 million higher, regardless of management shortcomings?

I got it ...And personally I dont care if they sell the name or not ....I think PA has plenty of money stashed away if he wants to spend it. Or if he can talk AM into spending it.

Same reason MLB doesn't let teams put ads on uniforms, it's crass.

50 years from now, Oriole Park at Camden Yards will still be there, and I'm glad we(and the media) get to call it that and not Xtreme Bank Blahblahblah.

But they do allow 20 of the 30 teams to give naming rights to their stadiums.

Not having a corporate namesake sponsor for the stadium is part of what makes Oriole Park at Camden Yards great.

What? How is this possible? Does it make your seat more uncomfortable, or the beer warmer?

We'll all still call it OPACY anyway.

Agreed Ravens stadium is great ...Who cares if its called M&T.

Another thing to add: Everyone that I know calls it "M&T". Honestly, when I'm talking about the Ravens, I really just forget about it being named after a bank, either though the stadium ahs changed names at least 4 times.

Like I said above, people are still going to call the home of the Orioles "Camden Yards" regardless who wants their name on the front. People will continue to type OPACY. But, if a company pays to have it be "_____ Park/Field at Camden Yards," I can't see how you can't at least ponder the rewards.
