Dodgers File

While the filing will get MLB off his back for a while, I don't think this is McCourt's get-out-of-jail card. I'm sure the Court will probably overrule Selig and approve the Fox deal, but I'm sure there will first be some modifications made....namely the portion of the upfront money that would have gone to McCourt personally is not going to pass muster. That money will either have to go straight to the Dodgers to ensure all creditors get paid, plus other operating expenses, or it will simply be tacked on to the later years of the TV deal. Same goes for any divorce settlement that was part of the deal. McCourt is on his own there, and the bankruptcy court is not going to get involved in that. So he's by no means out of the woods as far as maintaining ownership long term.

I find it pretty incredible MLB ever approved this guy's purchase of the team in the first place. How do you let someone buy a MLB team with basically zero money down? Was there really no one else willing to buy one of the league's most storied franchises in 2003?

This basically just drags it out longer with still no hope whatsoever of McCourt having a future in baseball. As McNulty said, this makes him purely a D-bag.

One thing I heard this morning in analysis is that this could make the club eligible for a Bankruptcy Auction which means the team would actually go to the highest bidder instead of to whoever Bud chooses. Does this open the door for Cuban to squeeze his way into things?

I don't support Frank McCourt at all' date=' he's a terrible owner and I hope ultimately the Dodgers are sold. But man, I just love seeing someone flip the bird at Bud Selig.[/quote']

I dislike so much of what Bud Selig stands for as commissioner of baseball, but I support him one hundred percent in this fight. McCourt is fighting a fight that, should he somehow win even some of the battles if not the overall war, could seriously and negatively impact the sport.

He* basically did for the Dodgers what the infamous executives of the early 2000s did to their companies. He strip-mined the club of cash to pay for his insane lifestyle. He made decisions designed to essentially cook the books and set up a pyramid scheme in order to keep loan money coming in. And now he is doing everything he can to wreck one of the great names in professional sports in order to do...something, though no one really can figure out what. Maybe that mystic he hired to throw good vibes at the club knows.

*By "he", I am also including Jamie Luskin and the McCourt family. They were as much to blame, and in many cases more so.

He is a despicable sociopathic creature who deserves removal from society. Since that isn't an option, public humiliation and personal destitution will have to suffice.

McCourt is such a d-bag.

This pretty much sums it up.

The question is, is it fair of Selig to say that he wasn't acting in the best interest of MLB by taking a 3B dollar TV deal, even if he was paying off his divorice with some of the money.

I guess I can see both sides of this though.

Oh I agree entirely. I was just enjoying a small bit of schadenfreude at Selig's expense....I really don't like the guy. But that moment passed quickly. There's a much bigger picture at stake here.

Sure he can say that, as long as he can show (likely very easily) that they could get a better deal either from Fox or another source.
