Dick Williams Died.

Talk about a manager who "changed the culture." He walked into a spoiled, lazy Red Sox clubhouse full of players who had been losing for years and totally busted their chops. And the Sox have never looked back since.

He's also part of one of the great early-years Orioles stories.

The Orioles are playing the White Sox at home in (I think) 1957. The game has a set curfew so that the Sox could catch their train to the next series. Late in the game, with only a few minutes to go, the pitcher for the Sox is told to stall as much as possible so that the Sox could hold their lead and win when the game was called. Dick Williams comes to bat, and with seconds to go the pitcher decides to make one more throw. Williams hits a game-tying homer, the game is called, and the Orioles end up winning when the game is replayed later that season.
