MacPhail Wants Jordon To Return Next Year

From MLBTR - Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail told Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com that he'd like scouting director Joe Jordan to return next year. The contracts of both men are up after the season. Should Jordan be extended?

I agree. As I said on the GM post i think AM lacks the ability to replace people and bring in people who are more competent. If he doesn't replace Jordon and make necessary moves before the deadline he should not be brought back. I would not bring either back but will give AM the chance to make a few deals before the deadline and make a decision about not extending Jordon. If AM doesn't return the new GM can hire whoever he wants.

But is Jordan really our major problem? Our drafts are usually ranked very highly by i.e. BA and other than the Hobgood pick I do not see how Jordan did a bad job. This reminds me of people just for the sake of wanting a change saying we should cut ties with Kranitz and we all know how that has turned out.

I disagree some with his approach, but he is not the reason that Baltimore's farm system sucks. I think he does a solid job -- not great, certainly not terrible.

I guess this takes the air out of the AM being Mum on next year. Sounds like he thinks his hands will be on the wheel in some capacity next year.

He has the smallest scouting staff in the division and the past 5 years, minus one notable exception, almost half of his draft budget has been allocated to one player. I think he's done pretty well considering those limitations and I think you're just throwing the baby out with the bathwater if you want him removed just because he's part of this administration.

No decision should be made until we know if MacPhail is coming back. If there is a new GM, he should decide if he wants Jordan or someone else.

Are we SURE that he wasn't talking about Michael Jordan? Perhaps to play 2nd base. I know he was a right fielder...but you know, he's an athlete. AND I think he is younger than Vlad (who is a Dominican 36).

Again its hard to evaluate anyone with PA still in charge. It's hard to do a job with your hands tied.

PA doesn't make JJ draft athlete first type players.

I think Stotle's take on Jordan is spot on.
