Just curious who watched the whole game. I used to care a lot, back when the NL was winning all the time and as an AL fan I really itched to see the AL take revenge. At this point, I couldn't care less, especially with only one Oriole in the game.

I did not watch an inning - of course, we got rid of cable TV a few weeks ago, so I couldn't. :)

But even if we hadn't, I would not have watched any of it. I just don't care anymore. IL play has ruined it, IMO

Along with the fact that "this time it counts", except that both the players and managers treat it like it really doesn't.

I rarely ever watch the All Star game. The last ones I watched were Cal's last game and that one year we had Mora, Roberts, Tejada etc. on the team and were in first place at the break. What was that like 1924 or something.

I used to watch every minute of it. Even in recent years, I watched most, if not all of it. But I just was not into it this year, there were a lot of players that I would have wanted to see that were not there, and while I am happy that some of the replacements (like McCutchen) got a chance, there were a lot of guys there that did not seem like All-Stars. Even though it "matters" now, this year really felt like an exhibition game. I had the game on, but I probably actually watched about half of it.

Something has to be done with the format. I am actually one of the few people that likes that the winner gets home field in the WS, as I do not really see another legitimate way to decide it. But if the game matters, do away with fan voting. It don't think it can be a fun exhibition and matter at the same time. I also think interleague play has taken away from a little bit of the AL vs. NL mystique. It used to be something to see how hitters would react to a pitcher they may have never seen. Now, they migth have played that team sometime in June.

Players don't give a rats ass about All-Star games in any of the major pro sports these days.

The big dog players run around like corporations afraid to lose millions of dollars.

I don't waste my time, it's a joke.

Eff no. Interleague play took away the uniqueness of...well, interleague play. The Orioles have stunk on ice for so long that they usually only have one representative, who is almost always a reserve. Players are bailing a la Pro Bowl. I hate the Yankees and Red Sox so much that I can hardly stand to watch. They can't get the game started before about 8:40 anymore, with all that grandiose crap they do before the game. It was bad enough when they didn't start until 8:20. "This Time It Counts" was always a bad idea, as well as the debacle that made the idea possible. Fan voting gets on my nerves because in its own way it furthers the inequalities and injustices that pervade the game. I could expound further on this but it isn't worth the time.

I agree with this. I went out to dinner, came home, hung out with my kids for a while, and turned on the game after 10 p.m. and it was still only the 5th inning. I hung on long enough to see that Wieters had been inserted into the game, but knowing that he wouldn't come to bat for at least another 45 minutes, I turned it off at about 10:30. They simply drag it out too long.

I love the pageantry of the game moreso than the game itself. I always like the lineups, and seeing the jerseys all lined up before the anthem. It's also fun to notice guys who used to play together, guys who don't like each other (the Giants have had it out for Prince Fielder since the whole "bowling pin" celebration last year"), so seeing Bochy and the Giants coaching staff speak so highly of Prince was interesting. I guess it's the peripheral stuff I enjoy more than the game, but it's still Baseball, thus I'll watch.

I'd blame the proliferation of media access brought upon by the internet and cable television in addition IL play. When you can flip on ESPN every night and see the spectacular plays from all around the sport, or mess around on MLB.tv and watch any game you want, you get to regularly see a greater number of out-of-market players than before.

When I was a kid I used to watch all the time. I have great memories of watching the Fred Lynn grand slam on a TV in some kind of rec room at a campground at Cooperstown.

But I don't think I've watched a single inning in the last 3-4 years. It's just kind of silly to pretend it's a meaningful baseball game when the real object is to try to set a Guinness Book of World Records mark for most players used in a 9-inning game.
