We have brought up the loss of velocity stuff...What the hell is going on there?

That is what I was asking the other day? I mean he says that our scouts are well-respected and he can't point to any one thing that we are doing drastically differently as an org vs. any one else.

He said that he didn't know our system well, but I gather that if we were doing something significantly different than say the Rays or the Yankees that he of all people would pick up on it.

Part of it is injuries, Erbe, Matusz, Bergy and Berken all got injured. Tillman is the real mystery.

Does anyone know why a guy who is supposed to have so many great ideas about baseball not working any longer in baseball? That is what I always think about this former blue jay employee.

Of course you would think that.

Maybe he'd rather write and talk about the game rather than accept a job for one organization. Maybe he is paid rather well for his work right now and is happy with that.

He resigned from that job to work at ESPN. I'm sure plenty of teams would like to have him but he may like what he's doing more, and it probably pays better.

It almost has to be the development side of the FO. I don't know whether they are pushing guys too hard, not enough, changing mechanics that don't need to be changed, not picking up on things that would cause problems at the ML level or what, but something is going on.

OK I know that this is a thing around here nowadays but I am just throwing this out there.

Is the unbalanced schedule and our division destroying the young pitchers? Think about it:

Brain Matusz last year faced either NY, BOS or TB a total of 13 times, 40% of his starts came against arguably the three best teams in baseball

Felix Hernandez faced that group of teams four times. One game against TB, three against NY and he never faced Boston in 2010.

Is this a factor? Are our players, specifically pitchers, being eaten alive in the grinder of the AL East?

Look at Toronto's pitching and see if they are having the same problems.
