Zero chance he gets 10 million.

BTW, I thought this big deals weren't supposed to be announced until Aug 15?

Just because they agree doesn't mean MLB signed off on it. But yeah, generally MLB tries to prevent these things from getting out until the deadline in an attempt to artificially control the bonus amounts. i.e. if Bauer signed for $7m then Bundy would want $10m, and then next year they would want $8 and $11m, and the year after that $9 and $12 in those slots.

So what happened to the idea that you couldn't do an overslot deal significantly before Aug. 15 becuase the MLB wouldn't allow it?

They still have the #7 overall pick to sign too. And Bauer is in their short-term major league plans. They're optimistic he could be in the majors as soon as next summer, so they wanted to get him into action.

If the tweet from the OP is correct, I'll bet the structure of the contract won't be a huge slot buster for MLB from the #3 overall pick.

Slot bonus is supposedly not crazy over recommendation. Value is supposedly centered on ML contract.

I'll go with $8 million.

Wouldn't shock me if the Orioles paid $10 million for him though to avoid a ML deal...

Is a ML deal really a bad thing here?

I mean, if he isn't up here in 4 years than he is either going to be injured or a flop in all likelihood.

I tend to want to avoid ML deals, particularly for HS pitchers, but I'm actually fine with it in this case. All things considered, I just don't see how Bundy could responsibly turn down ~6 MM, but BAL could well offer more to ensure that the deal gets done.

Right. If you are willing to give someone $7 million plus it better be someone you expect to be in the Bigs within four years.

If he gets a major league contract, then as soon as there's one hitch he's being rushed. Why or how is that good for the team or the player in baseball terms?

Right. If you are willing to give someone $7 million plus it better be someone you expect to be in the Bigs within four years.

No major league contract for Bryce Harper, Jameson Taillon, Manny Machado, Beckham, Hosmer, Moustakas, Justin Upton, Matt Bush.

I believe the last HS'er to get a major league contract was Delmon Young in 2003:

But Young doesn't expect it to take him very long to get to the major leagues.

"Hopefully within two years," said Young, who turns 18 on Sunday. "Sometime during the 2005 season."

Not a bust. But not a Ray either. He's still trying to establish himself as an everyday standout who can stay healthy. This is 2011.

I mean, if he isn't up here in 4 years than he is either going to be injured or a flop in all likelihood.

I guess there could be some truth to that if, when he got to the majors, he'd still have options available. Aren't some injuries along the way a likely thing? Shouldn't we understand that, despite our hopes and scouting reports and whatever else, he may have a long adjustment to facing a high level talent every at bat?

As expected Trea jumped to conclusions before all the information was out and came to the wrong conclusion.

The contract is rumored to be as follows

Trevor Bauer’s contract: $4.45M guaranteed w/ $3.4M bonus. If in majors starting next year thru length of deal, he could earn about $7M.

So its a 3.4 million bonus, which is around slot and he will have to be in the big leagues next season to have any chance to reaching the 7M mark.

Info is from Nick Piecoro on Twitter.

I fail to see how a major league deal with those types of stipulations is going to effect the Bundy negotiations.
