Just because you go to Maryland doesn't mean you have to like everything that the school/athletics does.

I've now seen bigger pictures of the uniforms and I still don't like them. I also think the numbers on the jersey's are way too big!

They have to be because there will be no names on them. Fans in the stands will have to have a program in their hands at all times to find out what player did what unless they were the ball cariier, receiver or tackler. Dumb. As for the uniforms, a couple of the yellow and black tops I've seen were ok, but not a fan of the all black helmet.

Overall, I'm not impressed and a few, including the all-white was about as boring as a 1980's high school uniform.

I definitely don't like everything they do. Ask me about Debbie Yow and how I felt about her during her time here. Ask me about how I could easily fix the incompetence in the athletic department and get the program back into the black in approx 2 years.

Ummm, hating on Debbie Yow does not make you "voice of reason" when it comes to MD sports. I didn't like her either, but you are about the biggest cheerleader on here, and that's ok. You go there so we expect you to be cheerleader, but you have to know that you are not a voice of moderation. You are too close to the situation to be.

I'm glad you and your friends love the unis, but making statement like, "No other opinions will be accepted" rally work here at OH.

That statement was meant to be a joke. I hope that it was not taken to be a serious statement. I started the thread... clearly I welcome discussion.

And I believe all my opinions to be reasonable. Because they are sometimes positive does not mean that I am not a "voice of reason". There are two sides of every argument. I often chose to look on the bright side. Call it what you will.

I think several of the combinations look alright. The yellow has to go. So does the all-white...Penn State can pull it off (maybe the black hi-tops help) but this version makes them look like the Stay-Puff Marshmellow men. I also like the turtle shell pattern on the white helmet. Hopefully they primarily go with the few combos that work, and save the rest for a Halloween night game or something.

I find it incredible that you guys can hate them so much while all of my friends and I can love them so much. I guess that the point of them? To get people to talk about them. It's working.

Yeah, the fact that more people are talking about UM football (good or bad) is at least a step in the right direction. Even if they come out wearing the most hideous combo on Sept 5, it might at least draw some of the attention towards the Terps....otherwise the only thing people will be talking about the entire game is what's going on with Miami.

You can really read the names on the uniforms from the stands? Without binoculars? While the play is going on? Where do you sit? From the back rows of section 3 (lower deck) I really can't read the names anyway. A whole lot easier to see the number and recognize the name that goes with it, which is something that has to be relearned every year anyway. All the name on the uniform does is give you a chance to study the player and number before the game to get that process going without having to refer to the program.

Of course, it helps having my son with me to keep me up to date since he studies the roster a whole lot more than I do.

I should have stated my opinions on the uniforms first before trying to determine if my eyesight is really that bad that not having the names on the backs wouldn't matter. I think they are.... interesting. Certainly different, certainly new. I have not been a big fan of "new" unis when other schools wear them, so I guess it's time for me to recognize that progress happens, or at least change does. I think it makes Maryland look current. I don't know that it makes a lot of sense to have a "classic" look if you don't have the history to go with it.

This is a new era in Maryland football. Let's hope the new look of the uniforms is part of a SUCCESSFUL new era in College Park. If that turns out to be the case, then I will come to love the uniforms, or at least certain ones of them, I guess.

I don't hate the uniforms. I like the different color combos. It'll take some getting used to. Oregon's jerseys took a while to get used to as well. I'm glad Maryland's getting out in front of this trend.

I will join in the "no names on the backs of jerseys is stupid" crowd. You can't tell me that these jerseys are for the recruits and then take the names off. I'd bet if you asked HS kids whether they'd prefer having their names on the jerseys or not, they'd prefer having them there. You need a ton of tradition to really pull that off, and Maryland doesn't.

I like the white tortoise shell helmet just fine. There's no excuse for not putting something on the other ones, though. That's crap, and frankly rather dull. A stick-figure turtle would be better than putting nothing there. We're not friggin' Notre Dame or Navy or Army or Penn State. Stop trying to blend the new-school jersey aspects (piping all over the place, mix-and-match combos, two-toned numbering) with old-school ones (blank helmets, no names). It makes for an awful whole.

    • I was thinking the same thing regarding the short possessions. The lack of 4th quarter offense had played a big part in these late game collapses.  This team investing in a RB like Henry makes no sense with how the coaches run this offense. That money would've been much better spent on someone who would've kept Faaele on the sideline.
    • Yeah. I mean analytics obviously is huge in baseball these days. Still people like myself who have been watching the 0's since the early 1960's still are entitled to view and comment on things from the eye and between the ears test.  I don't get upset when people speak about deep stats and numbers... Moose saying opinions are obnoxious because people comment about  things from an old perspective is not only kind of dismissive, it's kind of rude too. We all have opinions.
    • And think of how many quick offensive possessions we have too. That leads to a tired defense. They ran Henry once in the 4thQ yesterday. They didn’t target Zay after he caught his TD pass. They used 12 personnel less than last week and barely used play action, despite the fact that Crosby was all over them.    No game plan. No thought on how to do anything. Made Henry a priority and then you don’t know how to use him. Just stupidity all around.
    • The Orioles like to try and give this award to someone considered a prospect so McDermott and Povich can't be ruled out despite their partial seasons there. Brandon Young should definitely be in the running though.
    • It's going to be an extremely anticlimactic and somewhat undeserved champagne celebration when the O's eventually clinch what we have to assume will be the wild card. Like, it's hard to imagine a party of any kind right now. They will do it though, and that's fine. It'll just feel weird from the fan perspective.
    • Here something else to consider. Do the Orioles have a lot of players who have a tendency to hit the ball to the same parts of the field? Seems to me that the other team's advanced scouts do a good job of positioning their fielders against the Orioles more often than not. Now maybe it's just bad luck. Or maybe, teams have figured out how to pitch and defend against the Orioles hitters?  I'm not saying they do or not, but I do know this team has been absolutely pathetic hitting with RISP late;ly and having productive at bats. Seems the Orioles hitting philosophy is hit the ball as hard as possible at all times and let "luck" decide the results.
    • It's a good thing Irvin only cost the Orioles this guy: I was pretty skeptical of Hernaiz being anything more than a utility guy and had no issues with moving him for a guy who could potentially help in the rotation. This problem with Irvin is he went from this guy in 2023: to this guy in 2024: Don't worry though, we could lose Irvin because we have this guy in AAA who we gave up Norby and Stowers for:
