I missed the game. Where'd he hit it? Right or left handed?

EDIT: Just watched the replay on MLB. Did that hit the facade there? If it did 420 seems reasonable.

I believe a fan in the front row tried to catch it but dropped it over the railing.

We now return you to Wieters' regularly scheduled groundouts to 2B and singles...

He already has reached a new career high in homers (13 so far), and he will set a career high in doubles soon (20 so far this year compared to 22 last year). His ISO has increased a little each year. He's currently 6th in the AL in OPS among catchers with 200 PA. Go ahead and degrade the guy, but I will go on record as saying he is going to become an excellent hitting catcher, and his all-star appearance this year will turn out to be the first of 6-10 appearances. I see a lot of little signs of improvement and I'll take my chances with Mr. Wieters for the foreseeable future.

See the more you say this, the worse things get for him.

You are supposed to say he's terrible and will never amount to anything. That's how the jinx works... :laughlol:

I was at the game last Monday in Oakland. His blast to CF off Gio was no joke. Had to have been about 425 off that facade, and the marine layer was settling in so it was quite a poke.

I'm still holding out hope for more of that. It's not like we have much of a choice but to hope on this guy.

With ALL the good and bad that has been said about Matt's hitting, I have never doubted his power! The first two years he was up, like 90% of his HRs were opposite field. From both sides. And many no cheapies!

You can call him a mistake hitter, cripple hitter, whatever... but when he hits it... it STAYS hit!. ;)

Somewhere in a parallel universe, Matt Wieters will hit 13 homers during the final 5 weeks of the season (think Tulowitzki last year) and people will start to gush over him putting it all together and finally becoming the prospect everyone said he would.

Will that be our experience too?

No doubt they would. :D :thumbsup1:

I've been a very vocal critic of Wieters offense, and will continue to be until he reaches a level I can be satisfied with. However, to give some credit where credit is due, his OPS has been ticking upward the last 10 days, and August has been his best month since April. If he can finish with a good August and September, I'll have a little more confidence for him going forward.
