Wieters' blast tonight

Not sure I'm buying Hit Tracker, though the camera man may have made this homer look longer than it was by panning the upper deck at first. Looking at the Hit Tracker diagram of the play, I think they have it going more towards RF than it actually went -- it was a bit more towards CF, and that makes a pretty big difference in the distance. But I retract my 420 foot estimate.

I think hit tracker was spot on in terms of the location. The ball landed in the section of fence between the scoreboard and the overhang. That's exactly where Hit Tracker has the ball located. The bend in the wall where the scoreboard ends is where the 365 foot sign is, so my guess is that he had the ball landing where it hit that guy in the head, about 5 feet past the wall. The ball was such a moonshot though that it probably wouldn't have carried much farther.

The camera angle is a little deceptive because that section of wall is 23 feet high.

I like that you are trying to find the silver lining.

But the fact that we have to talk about his defense, as if it is that big of a deal, is terrible.

We have to put his defense on a pedestal because his offense is so bad. That's not a good thing.

ITs great that he can throw runners out...Whoopee! The staff still blows. The team ERA still sucks.

BTW, I don't want to hear he tired excuse either. Avila has caught like 16 straight games and is hitting great in that stretch and he has been their everyday catcher and has consistently hit better than Wieters all year.

But his offense isn't "so bad," that's the point here. He's slightly above average for a starting C. And in my view, he'll get better.

Isn't he like 20th in OPS for catchers?

And slightly above average for a catcher isn't exactly something to hang your hat on.

If someone told you 2 years ago that we would be lucky to have a Molina brother with Wieters, you would have laughed in their face.

Now, he gets praised for his defense and sklightly better than average hitting for a catcher.

Why don't we just call a spade a spade?

Exactly. Talk to me when he shows he can do it on a consistent basis.

Until then, he is a Molina brother.

Well he should end up this year with a higher WAR than a Molina brother has ever produced. He has a 2.7 right now, with Yadier's career high being 2.8.

He's actually now slightly above average for any position as his OPS+ is 101 (at least considering this stat, not saying it's the best). So you are obviously right that his offense isn't that bad.

LOL..whatever. Not going to waste my time with you on this.

No need to waste your time, you could have already resolved it the proper way, by simply saying, yeah, ok, my comment was over the top. But of course that's too much for you.

Except its not. Average-ish hitting catcher with good defense. That was my point. That's why I said Molina. The fact that Wieters may end up with a WAR of .4 higher doesn't change that and it is idiotic to even point that out as if it is an exaggeration. Its just you doing what you do..Trying to cause an argument over nothing.

You SHOULD be smart enough to understand where I am going with the Molina comment...SHOULD being the key word I guess.

I really need to learn to ignore you because most of the time, this is all you bring anymore..Such a shame, you used to be worth reading.
