Bob Haynie posted on facebook that Keith Cavanaugh has said Shaquille Cleare is a Terp.

This is, like, third-hand so take it for what it's worth (hence the '?' at the end of the thread title rather than a '!').

Kenny and Vinny just said that Cavanaugh just tweeted that he has in fact committed to MD. He is the 29th player in the top 100. Huge get for the Terps!

Possibly 5 scholarships left for 2012. My dream players to get for these next two years would be to pull in along with Cleare and Allen is, Layman, McGary, Jefferson and the Harrison Twins. 2013 would be looking something like this.

Guards: Stoglin, Howard, Faust, Harrison Twins, and Allen

Forwards: McGary, Layman, Jefferson, Parker, and Pankey

Centers: Cleare and another recruit

That is something to drool over...

Just as assist? He appeared to be ready to sign with the Terps before Gary retired.

Turgeon still had to seal the deal, and was recruiting Cleare while still at A&M. Plus, how many times have we seen kids change their minds once a coach leaves? Heck, 3 of Gary's recruits for this comins season did.

So yeah, give Gary one last assist in his illustrious career, but Turgeon was the one who finished it off.

It is something to drool over. I think it's also a huge pipe dream to think the Terps will get all of those guys. But if they can add 1 or 2 of them (especially McGary) to Cleare and Allen, I'll be stoked. Also, Padgett should still be around in 2012-13 to provide more depth and experience up front.

I didn't include Britt but realistically, I think we end up with Layman, Cleare, Jefferson and Allen. Britt is pretty possible, as are the Harrison twins but they are still reaches and unlikely. McGary is obviously the top target I want but I just don't see him coming here for one year. But, he has been talking to the Harrison twins about how cool it would be to rebuild UMD. Nice words to hear.

Huge get for the Turgeon and the staff. Hopefully this is something we can build off of. It would also be nice if Cleare used his friendship on the Houston Defenders AAU team (Harrison twins) and with Mitch McGary to form a super class. Definitely wouldn't mind having all four of them.

Yeah I read he loved Gary, it was between MD and A&M, then when Turgeon got named coach, he was all about it since he liked him a lot too.

Also heard we are really in the mix for McGary and he's like the #3 overall recruit this year isn't he? This could be the one thing that would make me feel ok about Gary retiring. I told him that the other day, ran into him at the driving range. He laughed at me and said he though Turgeon was a good choice and to give him a chance.
